Job description:

Requirements:

  • Conduct a thorough review of the contract plans, specifications and other documents for the bid items assigned.
  • Accurately and timely performance of takeoffs, calculations and analyzing data.
  • Be aware of the proposal requirements and discuss with Chief Estimator.
  • Solicit quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify D/M/WBE requirements.
  • Prepare documents for bid and proposal submission.
  • Perform detailed project cost estimate using estimating software HCSS HeavyBid and review w/ Chief Estimator.
  • Prepare pre-bid or green sheet estimate.
  • Determine means and methods that will be needed to build the job.
  • Maintain dialogue with owner’s representative and subcontractor/ suppliers.
  • Review risks and selected subcontractors / suppliers with Chief Estimator and company officers.
  • Close out bid with Chief Estimator and assist in submitting bid.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Proficiency in construction estimation software: HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel, Primavera P6.
  • Minimum overall 2-5 years (field and estimating) work experience in heavy civil construction. (field experience is a must)
  • Proven experience as an estimator in heavy civil construction projects particularly the bridge work, earthwork, roadwork, concrete and structural steel (including substructure and superstructure), utility, foundation work, and any other related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with DOT, DDC, DEP, EDC, MTA C&D, PANYNJ and other government agencies project codes and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Develop clear write-ups and documentation required for SOQ / RFP type proposals.
  • Knowledgeable about heavy civil construction implementation and estimating particularly for all or the vast majority of the bridge work, earthwork, roadwork, concrete, and structural steel, including substructure and superstructure concrete, besides utility, foundation work, and any other related disciplines.
  • Local-NY or NJ. No commuting problem.
