Environmental Science Associates is Hiring a Sr. Environmental Technician Near Beach, FL

Environmental Science Associates is looking for a Sr. Environmental Technician to provide scientific support for the South Florida Water Management District’s (SFWMD’s) Water Quality Monitoring Section (WQM). The position is based at the SFWMD Field Operations Center in West Palm Beach and will provide water quality monitoring and quality assurance system support. Tasks include Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) skills including data validation, quality system document development and review, data investigation and evaluation, and processing data corrections. The Environmental Scientist position’s responsibilities are primarily office-based, with occasional field trips to project sites that may include exposure to hot, humid, and wet conditions in areas occupied by animals such as alligators, snakes, and stinging/biting insects.

Who You Are

  • Have a bachelor's degree in Natural or Physical Science or related field and 2 years of experience in scientific support work or an associate's degree in Natural or Physical Science or related field and 4 years' experience in scientific support work
  • Working knowledge of state-of-the-art computer hardware and software used in scientific applications, knowledge of field data collection methods, and advanced knowledge of ecological, water quality/chemistry, and/or hydrologic principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and have strong oral and written communication skills, and proven organizational, time, and self-management skills.

What You Will Do

  • Field Data Validation - Validation of field test data using knowledge of field data calibration and verification procedures specified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Quality System Document Development and Review - assist the SFWMD Quality Assurance (QA) Team, as assigned, to create and maintain various WQM quality system documents including, but not limited to SOPs, the WQM Quality Manual and the WQM Field Sampling Manual. This task requires knowledge of MS Word.
  • Data Investigation and Evaluation – Assist WQM QA Team with quality assurance investigations and write assessments based on quality system requirements. This task requires knowledge of MS Excel with knowledge of Florida Department of Environmental Protection SOP requirements preferred.
  • Processing Data Corrections – Assist WQM QA Team as assigned to coordinate corrections of WQM field records.
