Operating Company: Environmental Solutions Group – Heil Environmental

Location: Fort Payne, AL

Reports to: Production Supervisor

Department: Operations

Shift: 2nd shift

Position Summary:

The Team Leader is primarily responsible for leading manufacturing activities under the direction of the Group Leader.

  • Applicant must be evaluated at a minimum of a Level II on the skills evaluation matrix for the department that you are applying to.

Roles and Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists the supervisor in directing department activities including:

  • Monitoring/managing department employees, ensuring compliance with company rules, policies and procedures.

  • Planning, coordinating, and managing the department production schedule to ensure that work is completed in a timely manner and that production goals are met.

  • Ensuring that the necessary parts and supplies are available for scheduled production.

  • Verifying that finished products meet the sales order specifications and comply with all company quality standards.

  • Maintaining employee attendance records.

  • Performs job and department specific safety and operational training for current and new employees.

  • Must be proficient in the use of the company computer systems to include Microsoft Word, Excel and other systems used within the department.

  • Must possess the verbal and written communication skills necessary to be able to communicate effectively with other employees and vendors.

  • Must be capable of facilitating “Lean” activities in any department.

  • Must be capable of filling in for the front-line supervisor as needed.

  • Receives employee issues, communicates that problems are opportunities, and assists in problem solving and resolution.

  • Corresponds verbally and in writing with department supervisor to coordinate smooth flow of parts and products through production process.

  • Communicates quality practices: “Do not make, accept or knowingly pass on a defect” and drives ownership and responsibility to the team level.

  • Communicates and ensures production of special orders and other products are produced according to blueprint/customer specifications.

  • Develops and communicates daily work schedules to be completed by individuals within department.

  • Visually monitors supply levels and communicates to ensure proper requisition of parts and supplies.

  • Trains team members on Best Practices that meet both regulatory and company policies.

  • Becomes familiar with departmental machinery. May include operating welding equipment and machines in various departments.

  • Communicates job-specific and department-specific safety training to all employees under his/her direction. Conducts regular safety meetings and weekly safety/housekeeping walks, and addresses all opportunities in a timely manner. Monitors/communicates actions and behaviors of employees in accordance with Heil policy. Schedules, conducts and documents monthly safety meetings with his/her team, and forwards documentation to Human Resources as required.

  • Attendance is important, including presence at work during regular working hours or the department manager may assign other schedules. Acceptance of overtime assignments may also be required in order to meet company goals and objectives.

  • Maintains cleanliness and order of work area, equipment and tools and participates in 5S and Kaizen Initiatives.

  • Consistently participates in LEAN and other continuous improvement activities to support SQDCME metrics.

  • Monitors KanBan and materials issues to support continuous improvement.

  • Learns and participates in problem solving methods to support objectives.

  • Performs other various duties as may be assigned.

Requirements:

Applicant must be evaluated at a minimum of a Level II on the skills evaluation matrix for the department that you are applying to.

Education: Requires a High School diploma or GED.

Skills: Coach, mentor and provide leadership to all team members. Must possess thorough understanding of complex machine tools; read and understand complex blueprints, specifications, electrical schematics and instructions, and operate welding machines. Lead Leader must possess good people skills resulting in treating employees with respect while dealing with them in a firm, fair, consistent manner. Must have good organizational and planning skills.

Knowledge: Must be able to acquire or learn the principles of LEAN, continuous improvement and problem-solving skills as required. An associate degree or certificate of accomplishment is preferred but not mandatory, depending on the skills, knowledge and abilities assessment of the candidate. Requires ability to understand general arithmetic; ability to write in an understandable manner; understand verbal or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions, lists and billing materials; use PC based applications, including Mainstar, Outlook, and Microsoft Office, knowledge normally acquired through high school or equivalent experience.

Abilities: Requires ability to read, comprehend and follow complicated verbal instructions, and be able to communicate effectively with his/her team and internal/external customers. Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to communicate with outside sources and internal departments in person and via telephone. Requires the ability to read written instructions, correspondence and other documentation, observe machinery and drawings, as well as operate office equipment such as computers and printers. Uses color and depth perception to check for product quality problems. Requires capability of performing essential job functions in an established office environment under normal lighting and climate control tolerances, with some exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.

Mental: Requires normal attention with periods of high concentration intermittently to operate machinery approximately 50% of time.

Physical: Requires walking/standing approximately 80%, sitting approximately 20% and lifting up to 40 pounds approximately 5% of time; involves some repetitive overhead work 5% of time; involves repetitive stooping, forward bending and crouching approximately 5% of time.

Manual Dexterity: Requires use of hands, arms and feet for repetitive lifting; use of hands and arms to operate welding equipment, general hand tools, computers (Outlook, Word and company systems), copy machine, other general office equipment and to record written information.

Audible Demands: Requires ability to follow verbal instructions and to hear for safety purposes.

Visual: Requires the ability to visually observe essential functions for satisfactory job performance and safety; color and depth perception required.

Environmental: Exposure to plant environments with the presence of dust, fumes, noise, and fluctuating temperatures due to lack of climate control.
