EPIC Academy is a CPS neighborhood charter high school that opened fall of 2009 in the South Chicago community with the mission to inspire and equip every student to build a path to college and career success. EPIC Academy serves one of the most challenged student demographics in Chicago: 96% Free/reduced lunch, 25% Students with IEPs, 15% English Language Learners, with the average 9th grader entering on the 4th-grade academic level. Job Overview

EPIC Academy is seeking a versatile and passionate High School Science and Math Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a Professional Educator License (PEL) and be skilled in teaching both Chemistry and Geometry. This position requires a dynamic educator capable of engaging students in rigorous academic content and fostering a love for both science and mathematics.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Delivery:

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for Chemistry and Geometry that align with state and national standards.
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction in both subjects, including lab-based learning for Chemistry.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.

Student Engagement:

  • Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active learning and student participation.
  • Foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills through interactive and hands-on activities.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Design and administer assessments to measure student progress and understanding.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and communicate progress to parents and guardians.
  • Prepare students for standardized tests and other relevant assessments.

Classroom Management:

  • Maintain an organized, safe, and conducive learning environment.
  • Establish and enforce classroom rules and procedures to ensure a productive learning atmosphere.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current with advancements in both science and math education through ongoing professional development.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, professional learning communities, and staff meetings.

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to enhance the overall educational experience.
  • Engage with parents and guardians to support student learning and address any concerns.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Mathematics Education, or a related field.
  • Master's degree is preferred but not required.

Certification:

  • Valid state Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsements in Chemistry and Mathematics.

Experience:

  • Previous teaching experience at the high school level is preferred.
  • Experience with lab safety and management for Chemistry.

Skills:

  • Strong content knowledge in Chemistry and Geometry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using technology to enhance instruction.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
