Performs radiologic treatments for patients. Responsible for pre-treatment services and delivery of radiologic treatment.

Treatment of patients:

• Arrange treatment appointments.
• Deliver radiation to patients in accordance with physicians instructions.
• Operate all types of radiotherapy equipment, i.e., Cobalt Therapy Unit, Linear Accelerator, Simulator, etc.

Pre-Treatment Preparation:

• Operate simulator for localization of tumor size and position.
• Takes contours and collects all physical factors for treatment plans.
• Perform dosimetry for treatment plans.
• Take photographs of patients for portal verifications, etc.

Patient Care Activities:

• Recognize all types of radiation reactions and provides the proper care and instructions to patients.
• Educate patients with respect to radiation therapy reactions and also life style modifications.
• Instruct incoming Residents and technologists in the use of equipment.
• Prepare cerrobend alloy blocks. Fabricate plastic holders for blocks.
• Construct and fabricate patient immobilization devices.
• Take and develop radiographs.
• Maintain patient management room neat and orderly.
• Coordinate department with inpatient activities to provide proper patient care. When necessary, transports inpatients.
• Ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of radiation therapy equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited radiologic program required.

Experience:

• No prior experience required, preference for six (6) months to one (1) year x-ray or radiologic experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Knowledge of radiologic equipment in use at BHMC
• Good patient interpersonal skills
• Ability to read and speak English
• Ability to fully utilize BHMCs electronic record systems, equipment, and other healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position.

Licenses, Certifications:

• Certification in the operation of Radiologic equipment and treatment required.

Physical Requirements:

• Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
• Position will be required to stoops, bends, lifts, carry items weighing or exerting force up to 75 pounds.
