Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County is Hiring a Member Engagement Specialist Near Costa Mesa, CA

Title: Member Engagement Specialist

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Part Time: Permanent 20-25 hours per week with ability for growth

Starting Rate: $18.00 - $21.00 depending on Education and Experience

In Person Position: Must be able to work the 2nd Friday evening each month Bilingual Spanish Required

Summary

This is a community-based position working with families who have a loved one diagnosed with epilepsy. The position is part time and includes four main components; Intakes, Outreach/Presentations to the Spanish Speaking Community, Social Media, Simultaneous Interpretation. Each component involves working with families we serve to help them access our programs, education and services which help them to live their best life with epilepsy. The Member Engagement Specialist (MES) is part of a multi-disciplinary team to promote the mission of the Epilepsy Support Network of Orange County. MES is a highly valued role, and many times, the first impression of our organization and epilepsy services for families in crisis.

Responsibilities

The MES will conduct telephone intakes with new members to gather basic information and get them connected to our organization, programs and to community epilepsy centers. Intakes will be done for both English and Spanish speakers.

The MES plans for our monthly meetings, welcomes attendees and simultaneously interprets the Epilepsy Expert speaker from English to Spanish through interpretation equipment. At the meetings, the MES will also be responsible for answering questions, speak knowledgably about our programs and assist attendees by helping them feel welcomed and supported. The candidate will be able to accurately translate all program flyers, email invitations, and organization documents that go out into the community.

Responsibilities Include

1. Attend all ESNOC program meetings/presentations as official interpreter.

2. Promote and provide bilingual (English and Spanish) support for people affected by epilepsy and their families at our special events and health fairs

3. Answer and return phone calls, perform intakes for new members and follow up calls

4. Grow ESNOC’s outreach opportunities by building relationships with organizations providing services to individuals with epilepsy

5. When the opportunity presents, accompany community promotoras in outreach/awareness efforts

6. Maintain professional interactions and relationships with doctors, nurses and hospital staff while representing ESNOC as a professional organization

7. Perform basic office duties and fill in office tasks as assigned

8. Promote ESNOC programs and events on Social Media: Face Book, Instagram, TikTok, Linked-In

Qualifications

A successful Member Engagement Specialist will be a highly motivated self-starter and quick learner with the ability to listen and communicate effectively, while striving to learn more about epilepsy to ensure lifesaving information is interpreted correctly and provided to our members and community. 

Specific qualifications include

· Bilingual in English/Spanish required

· 1 – 2 years of experience interpreting/translating verbal and written

· Possess excellent written and communication skills

· Work well independently and as part of a team

· Excellent relationship-building skills

· Proven desire to support and work with an diverse population

· Attend meetings and events as assigned

· Provide general support to the Program Coordinator and staff

· Possess the ability to make sound decisions independently

· Computer skills: Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, Power Point, data bases

· Excellent attendance record

· Must be willing to develop working knowledge of epilepsy-informed, client driven, and culturally competent care

· Passion for helping individuals and families

· Demonstrated ability to represent ESNOC in a professional and ethical manner

· Fundraising Abilities

Data

· Responsible for keeping records of new members in database

· Verifies, corrects and enters participant information into database

Education and Training

· AA or Bachelor’s degree, or degree in progress

· Training in Seizure Recognition and First Aid (provided by ESNOC).

· Attend Epilepsy 101 class (provided by ESNOC)

· CPR and First Aid Training

Physical Demands

The ability to stand, walk, sit, run, climb stairs, balance, bend, kneel, and lift up to 30 pounds. Candidate will be able to lift, load and transport equipment to presentation sites and set up resource table and equipment

Background Clearance and Live Scan. 

The Member Engagement Specialist is subject to a background check/live scan at the expense of ESNOC.

Work Schedule

20-25 hours per week- Monday-Friday - Flexible hours, some evening and weekends, additional hours available during special events

*Must be able to work second Friday of each Month 3:00-9:30pm
