Epsilon Beta Lambda Talent Search (TRIO) is Hiring a Student Development Specialist (Laurens) Near Macon, GA

Talent Search TRIO Program:
The goal of the program is to increase the number of low-income, first generation students to stay in school, take a rigorous curriculum, graduate from high school, and enroll in and eventually graduate college.
Position Summary:
The Student Development Specialist (SDS) is responsible for recruiting and providing pre-college services to students in grades 6th-12th. This position is located in Dublin, GA (Laurens County). The overall purpose of this full-time position is to identify and assist individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education.
 Requirements:
Education:
Minimum of bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline i.e. Education, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Sociology, or related field with 2 years of experience working in an educational and/or nonprofit community program that impacts the educationally disadvantaged/at-risk student populations.
Qualifications:
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge and experience working with at-risk students
  • Proficient computer skills with MS Office, Google Workspace, and database management
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technologies into the program and services
  • Have knowledge of current academic counseling/coaching strategies to facilitate students' personal improvement and scholastic achievement
  • Be familiar with Georgia Standardized Testing and other Georgia middle and high school curriculum requirements, post secondary admissions and financial aid processes
  • Must be able to prepare engaging and age appropriate presentations 
  • Be able to follow directives/directions, as well as be conscientious and detailed oriented
  • Must have the physical ability to lift and carry files and materials
  • Must have reliable transportation
Job Duties: Student Development Specialist job functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Assists with the development and implementation of age and grade level appropriate curriculum for middle and high school students
  • Effectively recruit and maintain a caseload of 260 eligible and qualified participants
  • Provide weekly contacts in the form of group, individual and virtual academic counseling and advising sessions
  • Provide personal coaching, as well as academic instruction and training as it pertains to career exploration/guidance, scholastic skills development, life skills support, cultural and social activities, and college visits
  • Monitors participant progress throughout middle and high school, implement and present test prep courses, financial aid seminars etc.
Work Hours:
Employees are expected to work a 40-hour work week. Though our Organization has standard working hours for the office and/or the target schools, hours may vary due to the dynamic nature of the program. The position requires some weekends, evenings and occasional overnight stays for field trips or professional development trainings.
