Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Quality Control Inspector II in Portsmouth, VA.
Summary: Directly reports to the QA Supervisor. Inspects and monitors work performed on government and commercial work items, specializing in Hull, Mechanical and Electrical Inspections for Quality compliance. Provide assistance to onsite management for quality assurance, safety requirements and other needs as requested. Provides project QA inspections and testing as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor compliance with company Quality and Safety Management Systems, Workmanship standards and Customer requirements.
  • Follows safety, quality control and inspection procedures for test and inspection plans for production Work-Packages and QA Work Books.
  • Follows test standards and specifies test equipment associated with requirements established in test and inspection plans.
  • Schedules and Conducts in-process "Self Assessment" in-process Safety/Quality Assurance inspections, Audit and Surveillances for the Project Manager assigned.
  • Performs Audits and Surveillances of Suppliers/Subcontractors for in-process work.
  • Coordinates with customer QA/Safety representatives to coordinate inspection and acceptance activities.
  • Reviews QA/Safety control requirements with customer representative to assure compliance with requirements.
  • Reviews contractually required quality/safety documentation for accuracy and completeness for project/job/contract completion.
  • Maintain OQE records retention.
  • Assigned to project for onsite support to the Project Manager and Supervisor/Foreman to ensure all documentation is completed as required. Assist production in other ways as necessary (i.e. Fire Watch, Tank Watch, general cleaning, material control, etc.) while assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the QA Supervisor or Project Manager (when assigned to worksite).
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree and 2 years waterfront Quality Inspection/Testing experience.
  • Bachelors Degree may be substituted with a completed Maritime Trade School / Apprenticeship with 3 years waterfront Quality Assurance experience OR 4 years military service with specialized training and certifications in Quality Inspection/Testing.
  • Bachelors Degree/Trade School/Military Service may be substituted with GED minimal education and specialized training and certifications in Quality Assurance with 5 years total waterfront experience with 3 years Quality Inspection/Testing experience.
Travel: Must be able to travel for extended periods of time (85%)
Job Training : Safety, Quality Assurance and NAVSEA Standards for shipboard work.
Certifications : Quality Assurance Inspector, NACE/NBPI (desired), OSHA 3095 (desired), OSHA 5410 (desired), OSHA 521 (desired), OSHA 3115 (desired).
Base Access: Must be able to obtain and maintain access to U.S Military bases and shipyards for performance of job duties.
Knowledge:
Knowledgeable in shipyard, maritime, and commercial work practices, quality assurance, safety, Metal-work and contracting methods.
Knowledge of Navy ship repair processes and procedures.
Knowledge of OSHA Regulations for Shipyard Employment, NAVSEA Standard Items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM), NAVSHIPS Tech Manuals (NSTM), and DOD Standards, Military Specifications, Performance Standards, and other customer related specifications and standards
Knowledgeable in all aspects of workplace Safety.
Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Mathematics - Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective fabrication or manufacture and distribution of products.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Must be able to physically access ships, small craft, and submarines.
Able operate in: confined Spaces, noisy environment, extreme height, heavy Industrial conditions, high traffic areas, office environment, meetings and multiple locations.
Able to Remain calm in: Stressful situations including; high pressure production schedule, strict workmanship requirements, customer interface, regulatory requirements.
ADA Notations:
  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional and loud noises.
  • Able to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways, and up and down antenna masts/yardarms (onboard ships).
  • Able to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight.
  • Must have manual and finger dexterity; able to grasp, manipulate, assemble small objects.
  • Able to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Able to perceive and distinguish normal range of colors.
  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
