Job Responsibility: Responsible for Courtroom security in all courtrooms. Assist assigned law enforcement officers in security measures within the Court setting. Maintain proper decorum in all courtrooms, insure the prompt and orderly progression of cases before all benches, make all appropriate referrals as a result of hearings, and have the ability to maintain order and defuse potential difficult situation.
Illustrative Duties:
1. Present and announce each case; summon witnesses, and upon conclusion of hearings, direct all parties to proper locations as required.
2. Review the dockets prior to initial hearing times, making sure as to which parties are present and if witnesses are to be called, which witnesses are present. Distribute and post dockets.
3. Responsible for ensuring that all waivers are signed and file stamped prior to hearings if service has not been made.
4. Responsible for follow-up procedures once hearings have been completed.
5. All referrals to court programs and other agencies shall be completed.
6. Make arrangements for prompt referrals to the Public Defender’s Office and ensure that prompt appointments of appointed legal counsel. Appoint attorneys for Guardian Ad Litems, legal counsel and Appellate Court when requested by Judge or Magistrates. Maintain an accurate record of all appointments and referrals.
7. Responsible for maintaining supplies in all courtrooms. Recording tapes, judgment entry forms, exhibit stickers, legal and note pads, paper clips and all other necessary supplies are to be replenished whenever needed.
8. Make sure upon entering the courtrooms that proper respect by all parties is displayed (removal of hats, no food or drinks, clothing worn properly and asking all to rise when the Judge or Magistrate enters).
9. Trained in court security with ability to handle and diffuse potentially harmful situations.
10. Process requests for Court hearing audio when authorized.
11. Responsible for copying and distributing appropriate information from hearings.
12. Any duty as deemed necessary by the Judge and/or Magistrate.
Qualifications:
Requires attention to detail, short and long term planning ability, written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of legal process. Any combination of training and work experience, which indicates the possession of skills, knowledge and abilities listed above.
Qualifications desirable for employment:
Completion of twelfth school grade; additional security training or work related experience in a security field; certified or ability to become certified in CPR and first-aid; certified Ohio Peace Officer.
