COME WORK FOR THE ERIE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT
REGISTERED NURSE - SUPPPORT SPECIALIST
The work involves providing administrative, clinical, statistical, educational, and technical data support for the Correctional Health Division, Quality and Education Department of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office to include facilitating communication and workflow with interfaced vendors of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Medical Administration Record (EMAR.) Work is performed under the general direction of the ECSO’s Division of Correctional Health, Quality Improvement Nurse. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Works under the direction of the Quality Improvement Nurse;
Collaborates with Chief Medical Officer, Director of Correctional Health, and the Jail Management Division in providing administrative, clinical, statistical, educational and technical data support for Quality and education Department within ECSO; to create medical reports and establish required monitoring reports within the electronic medical records system;
Maintains, organizes, collects, and reports up-to-date clinical data and statistics related to the delivery of correctional healthcare to the Quality Improvement Nurse;
Researches, develops, and recommends changes in EMR/EMAR workflow through the Quality Improvement Nurse to ensure
compliance with all applicable legal, accreditation, and industry requirements/standards;
Incorporates change management principles to facilitate the success and optimization of new or upgrade clinical software;
Participates in EMR/EMAR system development and testing to ensure ease of use by all levels of end users;
Serves as the primary liaison with the EMR/EMAR vendor for new or change work orders and /or identify and escalate technology problems to the Jail management Division Information technology staff;
Provides annual staff training on the Correctional Health EMR/EMAR system, as well as training on changes to the system in collaboration with the Nurse Educator;
Assists the Quality Improvement Nurse with the performance improvements projects related to the quality of medical care;
Creates clinical feedback tools; analyzes results and assists the Quality Improvement Nurse on recommendation of quality improvement practices to provide incarcerated individuals with appropriate and timely health care consistent with established and evolving standards;
Works in collaboration with the Nurse Educator to onboard new hires and provide annual education as needed;
Records, tracks, documents educational hours in collaboration with Nurse Educator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing with a minimum of two (2) years nursing experience, or
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered school of professional nursing two (2) year college, with two (2) years of medical/surgical or other acute-care nursing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Possession of a New York State registered nursing license at time of appointment and throughout duration of employment in the position.
2. Certification through the National Commission on Correctional Health Care as a certified correctional health professional within two (2) years of appointment and throughout remainder of employment in the position.
3. Candidate must pass a background investigation conducted by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
4. Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s License and ability to provide own transportation to work locations with limited and/or no public transportation.
