Job Summary:
Performs the primary functions of a Sterile Processing Technician responsible for cleaning and preparation of instruments for sterilization. Employee will be responsible for making entries into the biological and sterilization logs as appropriate procedures are completed. Other duties include cleaning and monitoring autoclaves, and maintaining the Sterile Processing environment. Must be able to follow established standards of practice for Sterile Processing as well as approved infection control and facility-wide policies and procedures. Hours must be flexible according to the daily schedule and department needs. Being 'on call' after hours and weekends is required to insure emergency instrumentation is always available. Supports the Mission, Vision and Value Statements of EHS and complies with DNV requirements as outlined by policies and procedures.
Education:

High school graduate or G.E.D.. Participates in educational conferences and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibility.

Previous Sterile Processing experience preferred with: a basic understanding of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique, knowledge of surgical instruments and a general understanding of the preparation of supplies for sterilization and the sterilization process. Must have the physical and manual dexterity to handle delicate, expensive equipment. Seeks programs of continuing education consistent with area of responsibilities.
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
Must obtain certification as a Central Sterile Specialist from IAHCSMM or CSPD within 2 years of hire. Once certification is obtained, it must be maintained going forward.BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward
