ERM is Hiring a Consultant - Climate Transition (Associate level) Near Edinburgh, IN

ERM’s Net Zero Transition Strategy team, within our broader Sustainability & Climate Solutions (S&CS) function, is growing quickly. We are looking for consultants to support us in helping our clients shape and deliver on their climate strategies and build resilient business models for the net zero economy. There is a significant opportunity for individuals to progress within the organisation, to take increasing responsibility for managing our work within the climate change space, and developing market-leading offerings to meet our clients’ needs.
This role will focus on transition strategy, including climate-related transition risk and opportunity (including quantifying the financial implications of climate) and transition planning . However, there are opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute to all of our team’s work across the climate change space (including net zero and decarbonisation strategy, target setting, and GHG inventories, among many others). More details of the role, as well as the skills required to fulfil it, are detailed below.
Key responsibilities:As a member of the Net Zero Transition Strategy Team, you will:
  • Support client delivery by working with team members across the business – including contributing to client presentations and workshops.
  • On climate-related transition risk and opportunity, a focus on identifying gaps to reporting regulations and frameworks, drafting risks and opportunities, undertaking climate scenario analysis, financial quantification of risks and opportunities, and drafting disclosures.
  • Support clients to develop and disclose credible transition plans against regulatory requirements and emerging disclosure standards.
  • Strategy and implementation development/ planning, including producing, for example, roadmaps and engaging with clients on sustainable business transformation.
  • A key aspect of this will be to communicate the findings in a digestible way including developing client curiosity regarding how they start their journey to transitioning to a low carbon economy.
  • Support business development and sales-related activities, including helping senior colleagues to draft client proposals and develop new offers;
  • Contribute to ERM’s innovation and knowledge-sharing through ad-hoc involvement in thought leadership, internal newsletters, learning sessions, amongst other initiatives.
Person specification:Well-placed candidates will match some or a significant part of the specification below:
Required:
  • Background - Climate Change/Sustainability knowledge (strategy/ management consultancy background). Understands the fundamentals of why climate change is happening, how it will start to affect business models/strategy/company revenue, Capex, Opex and familiar with the concepts of decarbonisation & net zero pathways;
  • Motivational Fit – Produce high-quality client ready outputs, can work independently, team player, demonstrates critical thinking and is comfortable with ambiguity;
  • Regulatory & Finance knowledge - some experience of ESG reporting frameworks such as TCFD/ISSB/CSRD etc., undertaken climate scenario analysis, navigate through annual reports & climate related disclosures and an appreciation of how to think about implementing regulatory change;
  • Experience of Financial Modelling - Advanced user of Microsoft Excel with experience of building financial models, quantitative analysis and data manipulation (knowledge of climate change is highly desirable)
  • Communication - Excellent communication skills, particularly relating to packaging complex outputs into a digestible format and communicating technical and strategic concepts to a non-technical audience through workshops and presentations.

  • Familiarity with financial audit and regulatory frameworks;
  • Experience (whether through study or a professional role) of working with climate related risks and opportunities.
