QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university
Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license
Intervention Specialist license preferred, but not required.
Demonstrated interest in teaching students struggling with complex behavioral health challenges to achieve success in the regular classroom environment.
Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the work involved.
Evidence of core subject content knowledge
Alternatives to the above qualifications as the assigned school district may find appropriate.
REPORTS TO: Building Principals (with functional support from bryt Clinical Coordinator)
JOB GOAL: To help students who have fallen behind, in association with a mental health disruption, make rapid progress toward completing the school year fully caught up and on track for the next grade level.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student in bryt.
Collaborates with teachers to determine strategies for academic success.
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets students' individual needs, interests, and abilities, including modifying existing curriculum.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
Utilizes instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives, including leading small-group and 1:1 tutoring sessions with bryt students.
Develops and maintains a work tracking and academic data management system for students in bryt.
Assesses the accomplishments of students regularly and provides progress reports as required.
Pro-actively communicates with key stakeholders for each student in bryt
Shares appropriate information with teacher colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in bryt.
Engages in consistent two-way communication with the families of bryt students to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-being.
Attend and participate in staff meetings, special education committee meetings, and MTSS team meetings as requested by administration.
Monitors academic progress of bryt students who have transitioned out of the program.
Collaborates with the clinical coordinator to create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
Models and promotes effective life/social skills with peers and adults, such as listening, effective communication and problem-solving, self-awareness, self-confidence, decision-making, organizational skills, and more.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for supplemental teachers, teacher aides, and volunteers.
Provides feedback on the performance of such personnel when requested, in collaboration with the clinical coordinator.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff and/or school committees.
Participate in staff development programs.
Attends professional development opportunities hosted by the Brookline Center for Community Mental Health, such as monthly implementation support meetings and cohort networking sessions.
Perform other duties as assigned by the assigned school district.
