Knowledge/Skills and Abilities: ? Understanding of the realities facing students and families experiencing poverty and coming from different cultural backgrounds. ? Knowledge of K-12 public education systems in the United States. ? Knowledge of and familiarity with various community resources and services. ? Must be organized and possess excellent management and organization skills, problem-solving, and public relations. ? Ability to exhibit professionalism, leadership, and effective human relations. ? Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages. ? Ability to facilitate meetings and collaboration efforts with staff and community. ? Ability to collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize, and utilize information and records electronically and by using traditional methods. ? Knowledge of state and federal laws and state ORSs and OARs governing education, student and staff rights and local board policies and administrative rules. ? Ability to travel among district facilities as needed, and if driving, the ability to meet district driving standards. ? Ability to work flexible hours, sometimes may include evening hours and weekends. ? Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required. Essential Job Functions: All functions are performed per established policies, procedures, safety and environmental regulations, and facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District. Current essential functions include but are not limited to the following: ? Develops and maintains strong relationships with historically marginalized students and families. ? Assists students to enroll in school, including after school activities. ? In collaboration with the district McKinney-Vento liaison and school registrar, identifies students who qualify for McKinney-Vento and completes the McKinney-Vento program intake, including transportation arrangements. ? Assesses families’ needs and identifies areas for support related to educational opportunities and basic needs. Works independently, and in collaboration with the district McKinney-Vento liaison and school staff, to help families access support to meet those needs. ? Maintains a caseload of families and provides on-going, direct support to these families. ? Stays informed regarding basic need resources that are available in the community (ex. Rent assistance, housing assistance, etc.) and helps family’s access what they need in order to achieve greater stability. This includes helping families make informed decisions regarding which resources they would like to access, assisting with paperwork and applications, and transportation to appointments. ? In collaboration with district McKinney-Vento liaison, provides school staff with McKinney- Vento Act training, as well as other professional development related to poverty-informed, anti- racist, and trauma-informed practices within the school. ? Ensures that historically marginalized families and students are provided meaningful opportunities to participate in their children’s education, including outreach to families regarding school events, parent conferences, etc. ? Works closely with school staff to address barriers to attendance in a trauma- and poverty- informed manner. ? Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with community partners and collaborates with relevant agencies to address families’ needs. ? Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with school personnel; works collaboratively as a team member. ? Participates in the Student Support Team and attends other school meetings as needed. ? Attends district-wide Family Support Team meetings. ? Work with school’s health navigator in referring families for services. ? Provides other related services as assigned.
