Job Description:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer II - Piping Specialist for the Baytown Blue H2/NH3 Project in Baytown, TX. This mid-career position requires a hands-on, proactive individual with extensive piping experience who can operate independently and solve problems effectively. The successful candidate will work alongside Brian Bush, the Mechanical Lead, and will be instrumental in managing engineering contractor decisions, ensuring adherence to company standards, and repurposing existing equipment within a Brownfield context.

Responsibilities:

• Oversight of Engineering Deliverables: Manage and oversee engineering contractor decisions and deliverables related to static equipment, piping, and layout within the Brownfield scope of the Baytown Blue H2/NH3 Project. This includes handling piping services for hydrogen, ammonia, oxygen, and high-pressure CO2.
• Guidance on Design Standards: Provide guidance to contractors on applying company project specifications and industry standards for facility design within the project scope.
• Repurposing Existing Equipment: Advise on repurposing existing plant equipment, including piping, tankage, and flare stacks. This involves assessing equipment for new design conditions/services, such as piping flexibility analysis, Fitness-for-Service assessments, hot tap, and stoppling.
• Autonomous Operations: Operate with a high level of autonomy to ensure project goals are met. Regularly interface with the Project’s Lead Mechanical Engineer and other relevant teams, including EM Pipeline Projects or the Greenfield Project Team.
• Evaluation and Communication: Evaluate and comment on engineering work performed both internally and by contractors and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with company specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. Facilitate effective execution of engineering routines that align with team goals and procedures. Ensure accurate and timely communication regarding engineering activities, progress, and issues among the team and other company functions.
• Facilitation and Coordination: Facilitate and coordinate discipline engineering technical work products. Address and coordinate various issues affecting discipline engineering design, safety, and regulatory compliance among the company’s and contractor’s engineering teams.
• Deviation Management: Identify and assess deviations from Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; process deviations according to company procedures and maintain a Deviation Control Log.
• Query and Information Management: Steward discipline engineering queries from contractors and sub-contractors, as well as technical information requests.
• Progress Reporting: Keep the Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager informed of discipline engineering progress, deviations, and execution concerns.
• Engineering Reviews: Participate in discipline engineering reviews at contractor and sub-contractor locations.
• Capital Efficiency: Drive and promote capital efficiency in engineering design.
• Support Initiatives: Support internal engineering general interest or Global Practice initiatives as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
• Advanced knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
• Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
• Fluent in English, with strong technical and business communication skills.
