Salary Range$196,000.00 - $254,000.00
What’s the role?Design Systems are foundational to product development at Etsy, enabling teams to build brand-aligned, inclusive, usable products at scale. As a Senior Staff Product Designer, you will reimagine our design system and how our product expresses Etsy’s brand. You will be a key driver in forming the team’s vision and strategy, partnering with fellow design teams and cross-functional partners to create a unified design language. You’ll lead design for the components, styles and patterns that will have a multiplier effect across every piece of the customer journey, empowering designers and engineers to innovate and elevate their craft.
This is a full-time position. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Product Design. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. - We craft the patterns, guidelines, styles and components that make up the fabric of Etsy’s customer experience.
- Our product teams use Etsy’s mature Design System, “Collage”, to build beautiful, engaging, inclusive, accessible and useful products consistently to Etsy’s Buyers and Sellers.
- You will work directly with Design, Product and Engineering leadership across all platforms to craft our growing landscape of systems.
- Design Systems is a truly cross-functional, cross-platform team made up of 10 web and native designers and engineers who are fun, curious, collaborative, passionate leaders - if that resonates with you, please join us!
- Discover insights, opportunities, and requirements to evolve our tools, patterns and guidelines
- Identify new tracks of work to improve our design system, partnering with cross-functional leads to define our vision and strategy.
- Create and update reusable components and styles that are used across our marketplace.
- Test prototypes and hypotheses with users to collect feedback
- Serve as an advocate for Design Systems across Etsy
- Research and formulate an opinion on industry trends in design systems and accessibility
- Partner with customer experience teams in sprints and workshops to explore the future of our products’ UI and UX
- You’ll regularly make use of your soft skills: listening, negotiating, decision-making
- You’ll spend time providing mentorship to other designers, coaching and leveling up craft across our teams
- You’ll play a key part in onboarding, and improving our team’s culture and engagement
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
- You have a long track record of building and maintaining mature design systems for global products
- You’re an expert in design across digital platforms, inclusive of native, web, and email
- You raise the design bar and can run independently, providing direction to designers within your team
- You have excellent visual and interaction design skills, from prototyping to polished execution with an eye for pixel perfect detail
- You’re a systems thinker who can diagnose complex problems and deliver scalable solutions
- You have an ability to create and translate creative direction and brand foundations, bringing them to life in our product experience
- You can lead workshops and effectively align a group around a vision and approach
- You’re a great communicator who can lead teams and manage a wide variety of stakeholders
- You have a deep understanding of the tech that powers digital products, and how to collaborate with engineering to make the most of emerging capabilities
- You are able to context switch and apply a wide variety of product design skills (e.g., design thinking, design strategy, user problem definition, information architecture, service design)
