Job PurposeThe potential candidate will be a technical liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers to monitor Advanced Quality Planning, PPAP approval, resolve quality issues, implement, and provide technical support. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are an absolute requirement to establish effective working relationships within Canoo and suppliers.
Responsibilities (80s Of The Position)
  • Implement and monitor the part qualification and certification process with selected suppliers.
  • Expected to establish a close rapport with suppliers, develop and drive action plans and communicate results.
  • Review/audit supplier’s manufacturing processes and quality systems.
  • Anticipate potential failures due to design, manufacturability, and process control and suggest and implement a resolution with suppliers.
  • Assure supplier understanding of product and PPAP submission requirements.
  • Perform routine surveillance audits and monitor supplier performance (KPI for Quality, including PPM and SCAR)
  • Functions as a liaison between suppliers and internal functions/plants (engineering, quality, operations, etc.) to clarify requirements, facilitate communication and drive accountability. Supporting other departments on cross-functional tasks as needed.
  • Lead weekly supplier meetings and supplier adherence to the Canoo APQP process.
  • Determine root cause (8D process) of supplier quality problems and coordinate/implement effective and timely resolutions.
  • Discuss part critical characteristics and required process controls.
  • Review and approve supplier quality plans on new part programs.
  • Review and approve tool, fixture, and part design.
  • Work with different tiers to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Improve the quality performance of suppliers by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system or other technical support as required.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, quality, or engineering in an automotive or related environment
  • Experience in manufacturing, quality, or engineering in an automotive or related environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, facilities, and equipment
  • Ability to support Design reviews with a good understanding of GD&T and Key Characteristics (Safety / Critical Characteristics)
  • Able to read and decipher dimensional reports.
  • Strong analytic problem-solving skills
  • Experience in new product development and launch activities.
  • Remain engaged, proactive, work efficiently and productively in independent and team setting.
  • Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail
  • Fluent with common MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
Preferred Experience 
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification
  • Lead Auditor Qualification-Certified Quality Engineer (CQE)/Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
  • Understanding of IATF 16949 / ISO 9001 Quality System standards
  • Knowledge of AIAG standards including APQP and PPAP (all levels) requirements including FMEA, Control Plans, Flow Charts, R@R, SPC, MSA, Capacity Analysis, GR&R
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Continuous Improvement and Problem-Solving tools.
  • Lean training and hands on experience is desirable.
  • Bi-lingual communication (Spanish, Korean, Chinese)
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to domestic and international suppliers (>25%).
