The Senior Staff Test Engineer will spearhead the product testing and integration of products for PowerFlex’s cutting-edge portfolio. This role will be responsible for testing strategy, procedures, infrastructure, and process to ensure our products are reliable and ready for installation and operation in demanding customer environments. From our onsite compute and networking hardware (Nexus) to our portfolio of contract-manufactured electric vehicle chargers, this role will lead the charge in testing our hardware and software products for seamless end-to-end integration and flawless operation in the field. The Senior Staff Test Engineer will dive deep into the heart of integrated hardware and software systems, mastering the realms of electric vehicle charging, photovoltaic monitoring, battery storage, edge control systems, and industrial communications. This role will be the be the linchpin between our visionary engineering feats and the real-world needs of our diverse customer base, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver game-changing energy solutions to our customers.
The Senior Staff Test Engineer will work with hardware engineers, software developers, and product-management, to select and optimize hardware components, evaluate COTS devices for use in our product, assemble and test finished devices. The ideal candidate should have the aptitude to enable state-of-the-art IoT communications and computing hardware along with a sound background in electrical engineering fundamentals. With a keen eye for detail and proven expertise, this role will drive our organization forward by building rigorous and automated testing procedures utilizing the latest equipment in renewable energy dispatch and electric vehicle charging technology. The Senior Staff Test Engineer will be the driving force behind ensuring our hardware-software integration efforts deliver to our customers while we push the boundaries of functionality and design.
LocationThis role will be based out of our Mountain View Office and will be in-person 90% of the time. We will only be able to consider applicants who are local to Mountain View or are willing to relocate.
Responsibilities
  • Developing and execute comprehensive test plans for product testing
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and facilitate defects resolution
  • Test instrumentation, data acquisition & analysis
  • Test automation strategy and implementation
  • Collaborate with other engineers to ensure that test plans ensure products meet all requirements
  • Maintain meticulous test documentation and contribute to design reviews to enhance product quality
  • Engage in technical interchange meetings between software development team, project management and subcontractors to develop new feature sets for future product deployment
  • Design and Implement Quality Assurance processes to meet system performance, regulatory, and industry standards requirements
  • Contribute to product testing and certification activities and review testing and qualification procedures
  • Provide field support for initial product deployments and conduct root cause failure analysis for products returned from field operations.
  • Stay abreast of the latest testing technologies and certification/regulatory requirements applicable to products in the field.
  • Conduct training sessions to educate project execution team members on new products or features, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Maintain a network of subject matter experts and contacts within the organization to facilitate knowledge sharing and problem-solving.
QualificationsEducation/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or computer science or equivalent discipline / work experience
  • Minimum seven (7) years in relevant hardware product design or development position
  • Demonstrated success in product or manufacturing test engineering
  • Demonstrated success in test automation and data acquisition
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • You have a passion for finding how to break engineered systems in order to make them better
  • You have a working knowledge of single and three phase electrical systems
  • You have a working knowledge of test software tools such as LabView and Python
  • You are motivated by working hands on with test equipment and products under test
  • You are meticulous about details and creating excellent documentation

CompensationThe pay range for this position is $130,000 - $216,500 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.
Supervision Of OthersYes, potential to expand the team and take on a leadership role.
Physical RequirementsNormal office environment. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds at times.
Working Conditions Approximately 90% of the time is spent in the office/lab environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment. Possibly 10% of the time is spent traveling to conferences or meetings or field traveling to project sites and vendor facilities to support the activities of projects.
