Learn more about this role and how you can begin driving your career forward!Job TitleSenior Technician, Vehicle Test Engineering Pay GradeS4 Job DescriptionPrimary Purpose of Role:As the Senior Technician, Vehicle Test Engineering you will be responsible for supporting Allison Transmission product development and validation at the vehicle level. This role provides opportunity to work across a variety of our product lines ranging from current production to new product development. Work includes integrating Allison transmissions and EV/Hybrid propulsion systems into commercial test vehicles, providing general fleet management and maintenance and preparing vehicles for specific testing in a test vehicle garage environment. This role will also have occasional opportunity to drive commercial vehicles to support testing and fleet management. This role requires comprehensive understanding of commercial vehicle operation and vehicle systems, strong understanding of instrumentation and data collection systems and demonstrated high-level mechanical and/or electrical aptitude. You will be expected to work cross-functionally with other departments to support vehicle integration and testing efforts which will require good communication skills and the ability to understand and interpret technical information and instruction. Key Responsibilities
Utilize a system level approach to integrate Allison products into commercial vehicles for development and validation testing
Independently execute vehicle projects ranging from transmission replacements to full vehicle powertrain system conversions
Conduct complex fabrication/modification activities to enable integration and mounting of test items in vehicle
Understand and install required instrumentation to support test programs
Perform general vehicle service and maintenance items to maintain vehicle test fleet
Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, findings/observations, and vehicle fleet information. Define and document department process and procedures.
Identify solutions and lead implementation of department initiatives
Expected to collaborate with others within the department and cross-functionally with other departments. Occasional interaction with external suppliers or services providers may also be required to support vehicle projects and repairs.
Qualifications
Vocational or Technical degree in Engineering or Automotive Technology or equivalent degree/experience
Minimum of 2 years experience in Commercial Vehicle Technician or Vehicle Testing role or equivalent experience
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated solid understanding of commercial vehicles, powertrain components and vehicle systems
Strong mechanical fabrication/modification capabilities and/or electrical (low voltage and high voltage) integration experience
Ability to read and understand technical documents and drawings and implement into vehicle project.
Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) and Tanker (N) endorsement. If CDL is not held at point of hire, employee must agree to accomplish required training, meet all CDL requirements and obtain/maintain their CDL Class A with P and N endorsements while in this role.
Proficient in oral and written communication
High level of interpersonal skills
Ability to set and meet goals for all deliverables
Proficiency with standard computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
Self-motiviated and able to work independently with minimal direction
Experience in vehicle/laboratory test environment or automotive/commercial truck shop
Strong understanding of automatic transmissions and/or electric vehicle propulsion systems
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting mechanical/electrical systems
Preferred Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Hybrid / EV system basic understanding and experience
