JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

· Manage, supervise and lead the Internal and External Financial Reporting, Accounting Policy, General Accounting, Financial Systems and Payroll functions.

· Oversee the management of General Accounting/Operations Accounting teams responsible for the overall accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and completeness of various accounting functions and the month end close process including Advertising Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Inventory Accounting, Inventory Reserves, Fixed Assets, Cash Control, Payment Processing, Corporate Accruals and Customer Refunds

· Timely review, interpret and generate recommendations related to company’s financial performance.

· Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports accurately and in a timely manner, including margin analysis and inventory loss.

· Periodically review and evaluate major transactional processes in order to ensure internal controls are effective and the processes are efficient and cost effective.

· Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and analyzed in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policy.

· Manage company cash flow forecasting and collaborate across all departments to assess the financial effectiveness of store operations.

· Create and oversee annual budget process and reconcile budget variances.

· Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings and preparation of individual and consolidated financial statements.

· Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, and other reports required by regulatory agencies.

· Account for capital leases, asset retirement obligations, construction inventory, discontinued operations, environmental activities, real estate and equipment leases, intercompany transfers and impairment testing.

· Deliver monthly, quarterly and annual internal financial reporting and financial analysis packages to Executive Management and Board of Directors.

· Review financial results including revenue and expense trends with company’s management team and make recommendations for corrective action to mitigate variances from plan.

· Analyze financial details of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas for improvement.

· Advise management team on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.

· Develop annual strategic and financial business plans in collaboration with management team.

· Train and develop management in profitable retailing (store operations, shop logistics).

· Handle all duties related to audits and taxes. Manage the company’s support of external auditors. Conduct or coordinate audits of company account and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements and regulations.

· Timely file excise tax returns and ensure compliance with all other local regulatory and statutory filings.

· Delegate authority for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities and financial instruments

· Provide leadership and management to the Accounting department. Supervise and train Accounting team to instill a culture of accountability and attention to detail.

· Provide direction and assistance regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures, efficient control and utilization of financial resources.

· Develop and maintain relationships with banking, insurance, and non-organizational accounting personnel to facilitate financial activities.

· Monitor inventory management systems, policies and procedures to protect asset value. Special emphasis required to ensure proper procedures and controls are in place to keep inventory shrink at or below Company standard. Coordinate efforts of bi-annual physical inventory and timely, monthly reconciliation of perpetual inventory records.

· Manage finance related special projects.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or similar designation preferred.

· Minimum of 10 years related experience with 3 to 5 years experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller

· Retail industry background preferred.

· Strong organizational, communication, technical and analytical skills.

· High level of proficiency in MS Office and retail accounting software; ability to adapt to company-specific systems

· Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

· Strong understanding of internal controls over financial reporting (Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance)

· Previous supervisory experience with proven ability to provide coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities to build effective teams

· Store orientation and commitment to store management development

· Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change

· Ability to work as part of a team

· Ability to travel to stores on a periodic basis

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

· Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written communications.

· Ability to lift and control boxes, reports, files, and other office material weighing up to approximately 25 lbs.

· Ability to use a personal computer, telephone, and other office equipment including copy machine, fax machine, scanner.

· Ability to sit at a computer for the majority of the work time and stand for periods doing project work.

· Ability to work under stress and to perform successfully in a fast paced and dynamic environment.

· Ability to exercise sound judgment and independent decision-making.
