My client is an American, employee-owned launch company based in Brunswick, Maine. They are a start-up specializing in developing cutting edge space propulsion technologies for the smallsat & cubesat markets.

They have been going from strength to strength and have significant backing from government customers alongside private investors.

Job Description:

The Flight Safety Analyst will be responsible for developing, analyzing, and maintaining flight safety protocols and documentation. This includes writing and managing launch license applications, conducting safety analyses, and utilizing MATLAB and Simulink to model and simulate launch scenarios. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the space sector, particularly with launch license applications, and a strong background in MATLAB Simulink.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage comprehensive flight safety analyses for launch operations.
  • Write and submit launch license applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize MATLAB and Simulink to create, simulate, and validate flight safety models.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for all phases of launch operations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and regulatory teams to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Monitor and analyze flight data to identify potential safety issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare and present detailed safety reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices in flight safety and space operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the space sector, with a focus on flight safety analysis and launch license applications.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink for modeling and simulation.
  • Strong understanding of space vehicle launch operations and associated safety protocols.
  • Experience with regulatory bodies such as the FAA, and familiarity with their licensing processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with other simulation and modeling tools relevant to flight safety.
  • Knowledge of orbital mechanics and space vehicle dynamics.
  • Certification in safety management or related fields.
  • Experience working with government and regulatory agencies.
