EWG is Hiring a Healthy Living Science Intern Near Washington, DC

The Environmental Working Group's mission is to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthy environment. We do this by educating consumers about what chemicals lurk in their personal environment - including their water, food, personal care products and cleaners - and empowering them to fight for better products and policies.
EWG is seeking a part-time intern to work with the Healthy Living Science during the Fall 2024 semester to research emerging environmental health concerns. During the semester, the intern will gain research experience in the nonprofit environmental and public health field; learn how science intersects with advocacy and consumer education; and gain expertise with data collection, analysis and working with consumer-facing databases.
Responsibilities
  • Assist on projects and tasks intended to improve our current consumer databases, SkinDeep, Guide to Healthy Cleaning and/or Food Scores.
  • Help prepare original reports and/or blogs focused on various EWG research areas, including, but not limited to, cosmetic products, SkinDeep scores, and ingredients used in cosmetics.
  • Database analysis and contributing to the building and development of research databases.
  • Support the research team by following and summarizing latest research in environmental health, and contributing to the preparation of research reports.
Qualifications
  • Background in public health and/or environmental health. Ideally the intern will be interested in or currently enrolled in graduate school for public health, environmental health, data science, statistics or a related field.
  • Familiarity with statistics concepts and statistics analysis.
  • Accurate data acquisition and data recording skills.
  • Strong online research skills and ability to independently complete assigned tasks.
Compensation:
  • Paid $20 per hour for 29 hours per week.
  • Students can also receive college credits in lieu of pay.
EWG's commitment to diversity and inclusion:
EWG celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We are proud to foster a work environment that supports, inspires and respects all individuals. EWG does not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, citizenship, ancestry, marital status, family responsibilities, physical or mental disability, military or veteran status, medical condition, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, matriculation or political affiliation, or any other protected class recognized in any of the jurisdictions where EWG has offices or employees working. We adhere to these principles in all aspects of employment, including recruitment, hiring, training, and compensation and promotion.
