Job Family Summary
GEO-Operations Geology
The Operations Geology Job Family maintains the capabilities for the planning and surveillance of the Corporations drillwells. The three sub-disciplines of Operations Geology are Site Investigation (SI), Integrated Pore Pressure Prediction (IP3), and Well Planning & Surveillance (WPS). The Operations Geology Specialist works with a multi-functional team in E, D or P to develop a Drilling & Evaluation (D&E) program that will allow the drillwell to reach, evaluate, and complete in the geologic objectives in a safe, economical, and environmentally sound manner.
Job Role Summary
The Advanced Capability Operations Geology Specialist in Well Planning & Surveillance (WPS) is expected to develop a Drilling & Evaluation (D&E) program that will allow the well to reach, evaluate, and if applicable, complete in the geologic objectives in a safe, economical, and environmentally sound manner.
Surveillance during drilling operations verifies the pre-drill prognosis and provides recommendations for drilling adjustments as necessary.
Performance dimensions including increased effectiveness and efficiency with regard to work quality and quantity, coordination and teamwork, demonstrating leadership, sound decision making, good business judgment and a focus on general interest are extremely important. These advanced technical and non-technical skills are expected to expand in scope and breadth through time, across projects and discipline over the course of a career through a combination of on-the-job experience in multiple positions in E/D/P and training.
The Advanced Capability WPS Specialist has a broad impact on the organization through mentorship on the drilling and evaluation plan, consultation to address difficult technical challenges and the creation of workshops or formal training material. There may be opportunities to contribute in additional roles, including leadership (TTL, supervisor, etc.), Senior Technical Professional Advisor, Senior Technical Consultant and Chief Geoscientist, consistent with the Upstream Professional Development Framework. See the GCO SharePoint site for further documentation on career paths and milestones.
