High Resort Eye Surgery Center has an outstanding career opportunity?No Weekends, No Evenings, no Holidays!The High Resort Eye Surgery Center is currently looking to fill the following position:Position: Registered Nurse PreOp & PACUJob Status: Part-Time (approximately 20 hours a week)
This position is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to surgical patients during their stay in the Surgery Center. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating high standards to promote positive surgical outcomes.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken and patient responses.
  • Coordinates patients’ care thought collaboration with the patient/family and healthcare team.
  • Performs assessments, with consideration to an age specific plan of care, per ASC standards/policy and documents on appropriate database.
  • Assesses the patient for physiological, psychological, and cognitive status and preparedness. (Holding area)
  • Verifies that the patient has been fully informed and is cognizant of and understands the surgery to be performed, including the site and side (i.e. left/right) is able to validate this and is appropriately documented on consent form. (Holding area)
  • Verifies that all history and physical, lab results, EKG, and other pertinent information or results are documented on the chart. (Holding area)
  • Reviews data collection and ensures that it is complete and documented. Notifies appropriate members of the surgical team any findings that may alter the course of treatment or the plan of care.
  • Recognizes the symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and/or other impending crisis and initiates necessary emergency action.
  • Demonstrates general and specific knowledge in patient assessment, physical and physiological responses to anesthesia, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, and administration of pre and post op medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to maintain an efficient pace in the holding area to facilitate patient preparedness for surgery (Holding Area)
  • Communicates and prioritizes efficiently and effectively.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in recovering patients having general, MAC, local, regional block, and topical anesthesia, with consideration regarding age, health history, and disease processes. (PACU area).
  • Demonstrates proficiency with clinical interventions that promote hemodynamic stability. (PACU area)
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize and treat lethal arrhythmias.
  • Competent to administer different types of medications to relieve pain, nausea, reverse anesthesia effects, stabilize blood pressure, or maintain a patent airway.
  • Demonstrates the ability to run a code situation, and is ACLS certified. (PACU area)
  • Performs competently in emergency situations.
  • Stocks and prepares area as needed throughout the day and at the end of the shift leaves the area ready for admissions of the next day of surgery.
  • Administers medication and treatments as prescribed by the physician or standard protocol.
  • Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to the healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task. Responsible for the clinical supervision of non-licensed assistive personnel.
  • Maintains patient safety, promotes a therapeutic environment and serves as the patient advocate.
  • Effectively facilitates and demonstrates pre and post-operative teaching to the patient and family.
  • Assists in orientation of new staff and serves as a resource person and professional model.
  • Labels and reports malfunctioning equipment and communicates repairs and ensures follow through.
  • Assists with Yag laser or cryo therapy treatments.
  • Assumes other leadership roles as required by the department.
  • The annual completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) courses is mandatory. Any individual who has not completed their assigned training prior to November 30th of each year may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Skills/Qualifications
  • Two to three years college level courses/ Associates Degree or Diploma in nursing.
  • Current State of NM Registered Nurse Nursing License.
  • Requires at least 3 years of experience in a PACU and/or holding area setting in the hospital or day surgery facility.
  • For PACU nurses, at least 3 years of critical care experience is preferred.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
