GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES

  • Performs accurate and thorough patient evaluations during triage commensurate with training and certification in a confident and professional manner. Follows practice guidelines for patient examinations.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

High School Graduate, College degree preferred.

Maintains a minimal certification level (COA)- preferred.

Two or more years of progressively responsible experience in a business office or a medical practice are desirable. This experience can be substituted for the College educational requirement.

Possess a working knowledge of modern office equipment, systems and procedures.

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Does not supervise any other employee. Reports directly to the Clinical Director on matters related to patient care. Reports to the Practice Administrator or in her absence the Office Manager on all other matters.

  • Performs accurate and thorough patient evaluations during triage commensurate with training and certification in a confident and professional manner. Follows practice guidelines for patient examinations.
  • Works-up a minimum of 13-15 patients per day.
  • As a team member you assist with seating patients, scribing and unassigned testing in between your patient work-up.
  • Informs patients of the purpose and effect of all tests being performed.
  • Gives direct patient care including but not limited to: patient history, visual acuity, auto refraction, BAT, automated visual fields, corneal topography, specular microscopy, OCT, tear testing, manifest refraction, applanation tonometry, fundus photography, scribing, A-scan, pachymetry, instilling eye drops, instructing patients in homecare, and other patient related duties as required.
  • Provide varied assistance to the ophthalmologist in performing minor surgical procedures including but not limited to cross-linking, corneal cultures and oculoplastic procedures.
  • Sends electronic prescriptions to pharmacy according to chart documentation and physician instructions.
  • Counsels’ patients on procedures and premium services as needed.
  • Complete pre-surgical paperwork as assigned and as needed.
  • Order contact lenses for patients as assigned.
  • Maintains study / referrals in electronic medical record as assigned including lab results.
  • Maintains office compliance with OSHA regulations and keeps accurate monthly records.
  • Prepare and send referral letters as assigned.
  • Completes disability forms and various patient letters as per physician instructions.
  • Return patient telephone calls and pharmacy calls. Keeps accurate documentation of all patient communication.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of technical supplies as it pertains to the medical aspect of the practice. Inform the clinical director when ordering is necessary.
  • “Early” technician prepares all exam rooms and testing areas for the patient day according to practice protocol. Ensures necessary supplies are out and available and all equipment is in working order.
  • “Late” technician should scribe for the remaining doctor (s) until patients are finished. All exam rooms including testing equipment should be closed (and locked) according to practice protocol, log off computers and turn off monitors.
  • Maintains assigned exam room clean, organized and stocked daily. Inform the Clinical Director promptly if any equipment is not in working order.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments according to practice protocol as assigned and when asked.
  • Assist with patient check-in, checkout, appointment scheduling and faxes as needed according to practice protocol.
  • Always maintains professional demeanor with patients, caregivers, physicians and co-workers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
