Job Description: Network Design Technician

The Network Design Technician plays a key role in supporting the planning, design, and documentation of fiber optic network infrastructure in rural and suburban areas. Working as part of a collaborative team, this position assists Network Design Engineers in creating detailed designs and ensuring the efficient delivery of high-speed broadband services. The role requires attention to detail, proficiency with design tools, and a willingness to learn in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assist Network Design Engineers in creating and updating fiber optic network designs, including aerial and underground layouts.
- Draft construction drawings, splice plans, and route maps using industry-standard software.
- Perform field surveys and gather data to inform network planning and design.
- Work closely with Network Design Engineers to implement design standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with team members to address design challenges and ensure project objectives are met.
- Utilize GIS mapping tools to analyze service areas and optimize network routes.
- Conduct site visits to verify field conditions and confirm design feasibility.
- Provide on-site support during network construction and troubleshooting phases, as needed.
Requirements Include:
- 1-3 years of experience in fiber optic network design, telecommunications, or related work (preferred but not required).
- Associate degree in Telecommunications, Drafting, or a related field (preferred); equivalent technical training or experience considered.
- Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) (preferred)
- Proficient in design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio, 3-GIS) and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Basic understanding of GPON, XGSPON, and fiber optic technologies.
- Familiarity with aerial and underground construction methods and industry standards (e.g., NESC, NEC).
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
