The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds. We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual to become a member of our Health Services Clinical Team. To be successful, the incumbent must be able to resolve problems quickly and efficiently, maintain excellent working relationships, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, manage time sensitive tasks and have the ability to work independently.

Under supervision, provides day to day administrative support for childhood immunizations at assigned District Clinic Offices or community events. This position will greet and register clients and responds to client inquiries and requests for information. Accurately enters data and information into appropriate databases, schedules appointments, files and processes/distributes mail accordingly. Works with other clinic administrative support team and performs other general office duties.

This is a non-merit e-status position. Cannot exceed 1560 hours per calendar year.

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and one year of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are general office administration, receptionist/public contact, and information systems/software.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • Driver's License (Required)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days)
  • AED (Required within 60 days)
  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective services registry check, sanctions screening and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred candidate will have two or more years of experience providing administrative support in a high-volume health clinic or medical health care setting. Experience with medical billing, database maintenance, event support, filing systems and scheduling. Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a friendly, service-oriented, and professional manner with internal and external customers. Position requires the candidate to work independently and in a team environment, be proactive, exercise good judgment, and use critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate is highly organized, demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications. Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and carry equipment up to 25 pounds in weight as required for the position. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
