Fairfield County ESC is Hiring a 504 Coordinator Near Pickerington, OH


Title: 504 Coordinator (4 Days/Week)

Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in special education or educational administration/ leadership or supervision; demonstrated familiarity with special education law and regulations
  • Experience in the areas of (a) special education services and (b) supervision of staff
  • Broad knowledge of state and federal special education laws, regulations, procedures and reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively administer special education programs, 504 programs, and to work with parents, community groups and agencies
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Required criminal background check
  • Meets USCIS I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification
  • Valid Ohio License
Reports To: Superintendent/Designee

Job Goal: To provide leadership and direction to enable students with special education
Services and 504’s to benefit from their educational opportunities to the fullest by eliminating or ameliorating barriers that interfere with student learning.

To provide current information to districts about policy and law mandates that
affect special education and 504s.


Performance Responsibilities:
  1. Provides leadership in the development of the district’s 504 program; Evaluates existing programs and makes recommendations for improvements.
  2. Assumes responsibility (at district’s discretion) for the support, supervision and evaluation of certified and noncertified staff.
  3. Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education, 504; keeps staff informed of legal requirements and ensures that all requirements under administrative code, state/federal law and board policy are met.
  4. Collaborates and coordinates with Director and/or Superintendent/Designee regarding services to students on a 504 and IEP.
  5. Recommends policies and programs essential to the needs of students.
  6. Adheres to procedures for identification, evaluation, placement and re-evaluation of students in need of special education and 504 services.
  7. Supervises and coordinates the activities of the IEP/504 team members and ensures the educational situations best suited to student needs and in the least restrictive environment.
  8. Supervises and coordinates home instruction for homebound or hospitalized education pupils.
  9. Conduct home visits, as necessary.
  10. Writes or coordinates the writing of 504 plans and conducts 504 meetings (district’s discretion).
  11. Assumes responsibility for compliance with regulations regarding special education, 504.
  12. Oversees the development and effective delivery of the district’s program, including the development and maintenance of the cumulative records of students receiving special services.
  13. Initiates, facilitates and maintains liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet pupils’ special needs. Refers parent and child to agencies when appropriate.
  14. Interprets the objectives of the district’s 504 program to parents, students, staff and the community.
  15. Collaborates with building principals to plan, coordinate and evaluate the special services program and to evaluate the performance of staff assigned to each school.
  16. Participates in the development and implementation of in-service and training programs.
  17. Makes budget and staffing recommendations.
  18. Attends IEP, 504 team meetings and assumes responsibility for the preparation and timely submission of all required data, documents and reports, in order to assure district compliance with legal requirements and EMIS reporting.
  19. Assist with student transition and placement meetings.
  20. Acts as the District Representative in the IEP, 504 process (district’s discretion).
  21. Works with the transportation supervisor to arrange transportation of students with disabilities, as needed.
  22. Attends and facilitates (at district discretion) manifestation determination team meetings.
  23. Assist with the collection of data needed for local, state, and federal reports.
  24. Complies with policies and procedures established by the Fairfield County ESC and the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  25. Attend meetings, workshops, and in-services as required by Director or Superintendent/Designee.
  26. Assist in the recruitment of qualified personnel for the teaching areas assigned, when requested by Director/Superintendent assist in the interviewing and recommendation process for employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes, and Other Responsibilities
  1. Knowledge of IDEA/504 Requirements.
  2. Ability to work effectively with others.
  3. Ability to communicate ideas and directions clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  4. Organizational and problem solving skills.
  5. Ability to generate correspondence independently.
  6. Respects confidences shared by the staff and operates in a discreet manner in all related matters.
  7. Performs other tasks and assumes responsibilities as the Superintendent directs.
Additional Working Conditions
  1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
  2. Occasional operation of vehicle under inclement weather conditions
  3. Occasional alternative/flexible hours/days.
  4. Occasional travel.
  5. Occasional interruption of duties by staff and/or telephone.
  6. Occasional interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and unruly children, and may have to assist with behavior modification.
  7. Occasionally required to assist and lift children with mobility and physical needs, and occasionally assist with getting children on and off transportation vehicles.
  8. Supplemental contracts or compensation may be awarded by the district for additional duties and responsibilities, at their discretion.
