Fairfield ISD is Hiring a Dyslexia Specialist Near FAIRFIELD, TX

Fairfield ISD is seeking a dyslexia specialist to serve students at the Intermediate and Elementary campuses. 

Education / Certification:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (Master’s degree preferred).
  2. Valid Texas teaching certificate.
  3. Subject area concentration in elementary reading/language arts (required).
  4. Endorsement or certification as Reading Specialist, Certified Academic Language Therapist, Multisensory Structured Language Therapist or comparable experience (preferred).
  5. Teaching certification held in multiple areas is preferred.
  6.  Reading Academy Certificate is preferred. Must complete by the end of the 22-23 academic year.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  1. Three years teaching in elementary reading/language arts.
  2. Previous experience in providing reading intervention.
  3. Strong knowledge of 504 guidelines
  4. Participate in Reading by Design Training

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Provides support services for students identified with dyslexia using multisensory, intense, direct phonics instruction following the Wilson Reading System phonics sequence.
  2. Assists the administration/teachers in identifying dyslexic students.
  3. Administers dyslexia assessments to students who have been identified as having dyslexic characteristics.
  4. Attends initial 504 dyslexia meetings to share assessment results with the 504 committee.
  5. Serves as a resource person by providing teachers with effective strategies designed to meet the needs of dyslexic students.
  6. Maintains record keeping on students served for program evaluation purposes.
  7. Maintains confidentiality regarding student information and data.
  8. Collaborates with the district Dyslexia Coordinator to maintain a district and campus vision for program improvement.
  9. Designs a flexible schedule to maximize service to qualified students.
  10. Provides support for parent involvement and other campus initiatives.
  11. Serves on RTI, ARD, 504 and other campus committees as needed.
  12. Participates in professional growth activities to include monthly meetings with the Dyslexia Coordinator for continued professional development regarding best practices.
  13. Presents professional development on dyslexia and related disorders.
  14. Keeps teachers/parents, administrators informed of student progress.
  15. Assists campus & district team in program evaluation.
  16. Assists teachers interpreting STAAR data for dyslexic students.
  17. Promotes reading intervention by sharing current information and other resources.
  18. Attends appropriate FISD instructional meetings.
  19. Maintains a positive and effective relationship with staff and supervisors.
  20. Communicates effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  21. Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.
