NATURE OF WORK:
The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in communicating with the provider, patients, and other healthcare facilities in coordinating patient care, answering questions, educating and instructing patients.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for welcoming patients, collecting, entering and maintaining accurate patient demographics and insurance records. Timely and accurate check in of patient for an efficient schedule is vital. Answers multi-line phone system and takes accurate messages, assessing the urgency of the message and routing to the appropriate staff person. Schedules appointments. Assists Director and clinical staff to sustain an efficient practice.
The Medical Assistant provides an assessment of patients for healthcare providers (secondary to the Office Nurse), assist providers with office procedures, and carry out provider orders. Answer patient questions, handle referrals to specialists, take care of prescription requests, patient instructions, and patient education. During patient work-up, enter patient’s entire health data/history in electronic chart with accuracy and completeness. Verify patient health information such as medication at each visit, updating patient chart to maintain current medical information. Follow safety precautions and participate in policy development and quality/performance improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Associate Degree in correlating field preferred.
Experience: Previous medical software experience preferred. Training/experience in a variety of medical skills and tasks, both office and patient-care related. Someone with experience on the patient side- getting the vitals, understanding medical terminology and anatomy, phlebotomy, as well as the office side with insurance and legal consent requirements, phone and customer service,
Skills: Typing speed of at least 45 wpm, good organizational skills, articulate and computer skills required. Courses in the medical field preferred.
