Job Purpose

To effectively and efficiently assist the dentist in providing dental care to patients and to promote Familia Dentals culture and mission and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Ortho Assistant performs many tasks requiring both interpersonal and technical skills. Although state regulations vary, responsibilities may include:

* Maintaining accurate records of patients' oral health histories and treatment progress.

* Ensuring that all orthodontic instruments and equipment are properly sterilized before each use.

* Keeping patients mouths dry during orthodontic procedures by using a suction hose as needed.

* Taking intraoral X-rays of patients mouths.

* Taking photographs of patients teeth to aid the Orthodontist in developing treatment plans and to document patient progress.

* Taking dental molds of patients teeth for the fabrication of customized mouth guards and retainers.

* Removing and replacing wires, coil springs, donuts, and elastic bands.

* Educating patients on proper oral hygiene practices and braces aftercare.

Qualifications/Skill Sets

* Exceptional customer/patient service skills

* Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills

* Basic computer knowledge and experience with dental management software experience. Denticon experience is preferred.

* Ability to work in fast paced, patient-focused environment.

* Detail oriented.

* Able to carry out written and verbal instructions

* Organizational and time management skills

* Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

* Meet state requirements for DA duties, continuing education, or license; Basic Life Support (BLS), cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate, and radiography certificate

* Dental assisting experience is preferred, but not required.

* Experience working within healthcare or related field strongly preferred

Availability / Schedule:

Office Hours: M-F, 8 AM - 7 PM and Sat, 9 AM - 4 PM

Part Time:

* 2-3 days per week (up to 30 hours per week)

* full days or half day shifts

* available to work Saturdays when needed
