Cardiac Sonographer - Dakota Dunes Imaging Center - On Call (less than 24 hours/wk.)

LOCATION: Family Health Care of Siouxland – Dakota Dunes Imaging Center

POSITION: Cardiac Sonographer

HOURS: 2 Days a week; Wednesday and another weekday

REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: Provides professional team-based care and ultrasound exams to patients. Assists in the continuum of care and in educating patients on their patient centered medical home.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
1. The Cardiac Sonographer must be able to accurately interpret physicians’ orders/instructions, prepare and operate the Ultrasound equipment to capture the appropriate quality images.
2. Stock and clean scan rooms and order necessary supplies.
3. Perform and/or oversee patient identifications, histories, and health.
4. Communicate with Cardiologist and physicians by giving and/or obtaining additional detailed information concerning the patient’s symptoms.
5. Communicate with the equipment manufacturer’s engineering staff when technical problems arise and ensure maintenance of equipment is performed timely.
6. Educate patients concerning their procedure and expectations. Observes patients for vital signs during procedure, comfort high- stress patients.
7. Follow prescribed safety standards in operating ultrasound equipment. Evaluate quality of sonograms. Determine if additional ultrasound procedures are indicated.
8. Establish quality control standards in Cardiac Ultrasound and monitor standards; ensure compliance and appropriate documentation for IAC (Intersocietal Accreditation Commission) accreditation.
9. Perform related work as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
1. Completion of an accredited sonography program.
2. Three to five years experience as an Ultrasound Technologist in general, OB-GYN, vascular ultrasound, and echocardiography

Preferred: Word processing and computer experience.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
The technologist must be credentialed through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with Adult Echocardiography (RDCS), Ob, Abdomen(RDMS), and Vascular (RVT); American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Sonography RT(S) and Vascular RT(VS); Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), and Vascular (RVS)
