Fargo Public Schools is Hiring an Instructional Coach - Math Focus Near Fargo, ND

Position Purpose: A Instructional Coach is an experienced educator whose work focuses on refining teacher practice in the classroom with the primary indicator of success being learner achievement. Instructional Coaches utilize coaching cycles to work in partnership with educators as equal partners towards a common student-centered goal. Coaching builds teacher efficacy by supporting teachers in refining their instructional practices to close the achievement gap and accelerate learning for all students. Instructional Coaches will be hired, placed, and monitored by the building principal at the discretion of the Director of Standards-Based Instruction in consultation with the Assistant Superintendent Elementary Education.
Responsibilities 1. Instructional Coach: Provide support, feedback and reflection to increase the quality and effectiveness of instruction Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 34% Examples of this work include:
  • Mentors new teacher(s) in accordance with the FPS New Teacher Induction Program.
  • Provides support to teachers through co-planning, modeling, co-teaching, observing, and providing feedback on core instruction and interventions.
  • Facilitates or coordinates professional development (e.g., district-led, building-led, workshop sessions, book study, etc.).
  • Provides building level support and guidance with PLC teams.
  • Participates in all mandatory training or training appropriate to the position as required by the district.
  • Collaborates with other Instructional Coaches and District Facilitators to share findings across the district learning community.
  • Collaborates with teachers to implement the most appropriate strategies to meet the learning needs of all students.
2. Curriculum Coach: Align standards-based instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students. Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 33% Examples of this work include:
  • Facilitates standards-based planning with teachers.
  • Collaborates with teachers to set standards-based goals for student learning.
  • Supports teachers in creation and use of formative assessments and standards based grading.
  • Supports teachers with curriculum adoptions, pacing guides and common assessments to maintain district-wide consistency.
  • Supports ongoing implementation of district initiatives.
3. Data Coach: Ensure that student achievement data drives instructional decisions. Priority: Essential | Percent of Time: 33% Examples of this work include:
  • Supports teachers to examine data, understand their students’ strengths and weaknesses, and identify instructional strategies to address identified needs.
  • Facilitates and/or aligns student interventions in the MTSS-A or MTSS-B process.
  • Promotes alignment of existing student interventions provided by multiple staff (e.g., Title I, ELL, Special Education, Classroom Teacher) to ensure clear communication.
  • Analyzes school and grade-level data trends to design, implement, and assess impact of school initiatives.
  • Provides ongoing training, modeling and coaching to ensure teachers and supports personnel to know how to administer, collect and analyze FPS assessments efficiently and effectively.
Minimum QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
  • Valid North Dakota Teaching License.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful elementary teaching experience.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of schools, teachers, and classrooms.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic proficiency with instructional technology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to interpret and analyze data.
  • Ability to create and present effective presentations.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and individuals.
  • Intermediate proficiency with instructional technology.
  • Experience in using assessment results to guide instruction.
  • Knowledge of research and best practices in instructional design and differentiating instruction
