What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director of Transportation position at Fauquier County Public Schools?
Performs responsible work assisting the Director of Transportation with daily operations and activities of the School Transportation System, to include planning student transportation, monitoring assignment of bus drivers, overseeing maintenance of buses, assisting with department budget, and performing administrative functions in support of the department. Work is performed under limited supervision. Supervision exercised over departmental personnel.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of state and local laws and regulations regarding pupil transportation; ability to collect and analyze data to recommend actions to be taken; ability to use microcomputer in the analysis of data; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and the ability to use effective presentation skills when addressing a diverse group of stakeholders, to include the use of clear and legible visuals and articulate and audible speech. Knowledge of research and evaluation design, including application of appropriate statistical procedures, data analysis, and interpretation of results. Ability to supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization. Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills are essential. Must also possess the ability to use or learn to use variety of computer software applications and programs, such as Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, statistical analysis programs, and student information system databases.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED; supplemented by college level course work or vocational training in school transportation, vehicle/equipment maintenance, business administration, and personal computer operations; supplemented by six (6) years previous experience and/or training that includes school transportation, fleet operations, vehicle/equipment maintenance, computerized trip routing, budget development, and supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
