ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AND ACTIVITIES SUPPORT - SCHOOL SITE
POSITION SUMMARY
: This position is designed to assist the school principal and Director of Athletics with the management of the school athletics and activities program. The athletic director assists in supervision of coaches and others involved in school athletics and activities. The expectation for this position is to direct implementation and interpretation of the policies of the Board of Education, the school district, and WIAA as outlined in the respective handbooks, by-laws and sport regulations. This position shall be responsible for the overall leadership, supervision and coordination of all athletic and activities programs to ensure students have worthwhile learning experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned.   • Provides leadership and coordination of all school Athletic Department functions as assigned by the principal or Director of Athletics
  • Assists in the preparation of a building-level ASB budget and coordinates a request, review, and approval process for head coaches, as assigned by the Principal
  • Serves as the liaison between administration and ASB supervisor.
  • Conducts interviews for coaching vacancies
  • Observes and evaluates all head coaches, assistant coaches per department guidelines
  • Reviews observation information with the assistant principal with oversight for athletics and Director of Athletics
  • Ensures all paid and volunteer coaches are properly cleared to work with students to include WSP/FBI background checks.
  • Coordinates and develops practice schedules and facility coordination (building permits) at assigned high school and other practice sites in conjunction with the District Athletics Office.
  • Schedules opponents and makes travel arrangements.
  • Contracts contest officials and schedules transportation
  • Accepts, reviews and monitors all student eligibility paperwork to include grade checks for academic compliance.
  • Observes and evaluates all head coaches, assistant coaches and volunteer coaches per department guidelines.
  • Coordinates and assists with supervision and staffing for all sporting events
  • Attends regular meetings with the Director of Athletics to coordinate the district wide athletics program
  • Coordinates and leads seasonal parent meetings
  • Coordinates and leads regular coaches’ meetings
  • Coordinates team and overnight travel per district policy
  • Coordinates in-building event staff and administrative supervision for building athletic events
  • Regularly inspects athletic facilities for potential safety hazards and reports issues to Director of Athletics.
  • Serves as the liaison for booster group representatives and ensures compliance with District and State guidelines.
  • Approves fundraising requests and fundraisers to ensure compliance with District and State guidelines
  • Completes and submits required WIAA paperwork to include coordination of student eligibility appeals
  • Builds partnerships with community and youth sports groups
  • Maintains athletic equipment inventory
  • Ensures that the use of fundraising, donations, and booster clubs does not result in disparities that favor one sex over another.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervising principal or Director of Athletics for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and supporting student learning objectives.

Required QualificationsEducation and ExperienceA valid Washington state teacher certificate with a secondary grade level endorsement
Five years of experience coaching and/or supervising high school athletics programs
Additional RequirementsWork scheduled hours on a consistent basis
Preferred QualificationsExperience in working with a diverse student population
Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA)
Coaching and/or supervision of Washington State High School Athletics Program
Condition Of EmploymentCriminal background clearance
Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of insurance
Possess and maintain a current district-approved CPR/First Aid/AED card within one year of employment. District approved courses must include hands-on and written exam.
Concussion Training within first year
Type II license within first year
CAA Certification by start of fourth year

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor and outdoor conditions and occasionally in inclement weather. The employee regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to noisy. This position occasionally is faced with disgruntled students, parents, staff, community members, and officials.

Level Of CompensationFederal Way Education Association (FWEA) Salary Schedule. This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE; medical, dental, vision, sick and vacation leave, life insurance and retirement.
