Established in 2011, Feed Iowa First addresses food insecurity in Linn County by cultivating culturally relevant vegetables for underserved communities. We focus on promoting health equity through improved food access, simultaneously reducing waste by growing in-demand produce sustainably. Through partnerships with local entities, we distribute over 46,000 lbs. of fresh produce to economically disadvantaged households and communities in need. Farm Operations Manager Temporary Position

Looking to make a meaningful impact in sustainable agriculture and community outreach? Feed Iowa First is seeking a dedicated individual to step into the role of Wanatee Farm Temporary Manager. As part of our mission to promote regenerative farming practices and chemical-free vegetable production, you’ll be instrumental in overseeing operations at Wanatee Farm during the leave of the full-time Manager. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this dynamic position emphasizes collaboration and leadership, offering the opportunity to manage day-to-day farm operations, guide field staff and volunteers, and engage with the community through outreach initiatives. Essential Responsibilities:

• Farm Management:
• Manage 2 acres of vegetable production, .5 acres of orchard, and lend support to 7 on-site emerging farmers in the Equitable Land Access Program.
• Infrastructure maintenance and repairs, including sheds, hydrants and hoophouse.
• Operate and maintain farming equipment and machinery.
• Maintenance of up to 2 acres of vegetable production including: Irrigation, organic weed control, harvesting, transporting harvests
• Record Keeping and budgeting
• Coordinate and manage consistent site-specific volunteer activities weekly during contact period of groups up to 40 people.
• Equitable Land Access Program support
• Follow food safety practices
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

• A valid Driver’s License and a driving record sufficient to be insured as a driver under any insurance policy maintained by Feed Iowa First.
• Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
• Ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a team.
• Previous experience with chemical-free/organic vegetable production and/or agriculture qualification (or working towards one).
• Experience with small farm equipment, including tractors and 3pt attachments.

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, with occasional nights and weekends.
• Flexible morning start times.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 28 per week
