Senior Accountant Job Description
Overview
The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Accounting Manager to oversee general accounting operations and perform complex accounting tasks such as journal entries, reconciliations, and verifying financial transactions. This role is integral in ensuring the accuracy and effectiveness of all accounting activities, including transactional processing, financial analysis, and monthly financial statements. The ideal candidate is driven, eager to learn, and dedicated to supporting the company's growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, understand, and post basic and complex journal entry transactions.
- Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Accounting Manager to resolve any concerns.
- Conduct various analyses on specific general ledger accounts.
- Assist in gathering data and schedules required for audit and tax filings.
- Help manage accounts receivable, cash receipt, and billing functions.
- Maintain sales and use tax certificates and review related tax postings in the general ledger.
- Suggest improvements to accounting systems and create useful reports for management.
- Review accounts and financial records to identify discrepancies and errors.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 2 years of of accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting and finance principles and procedures.
- Extensive knowledge of US GAAP.
- Ability to independently analyze general ledger accounts, investigate variances, and correct errors.
- Leadership qualities to train and guide team members.
- Experience with SAP or similar accounting systems preferred.
- Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office products and advanced Excel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to take the lead and work independently on projects.
- Possess negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Highly organized with the ability to multitask.
