Chief Engineer – Strategy & ArchitectureSalary: London ranging from - £88,800 - £144,200 and National from - £80,700 - £131,100
Are you looking to join a team that will be transforming the FCA's engineering practices and driving digital transformation initiatives?
The team/department Building a strategically aligned Engineering approach, the team will be working with our external partners and offshore delivery teams, to introduce new modern ways of working and value to the FCA.
Team will influence delivery strategy and investment in future infrastructure, tooling and processes that will directly impact the FCAs ability to deliver technology effectively.
What You Will Be Doing (the Role)
  • A key leader responsible for transforming our organisation's engineering practices, fostering a DevSecOps mindset, and driving digital transformation initiatives
  • Responsible for leading the FCA’s technology delivery direction and defining a strategic and long-term vision of the delivery needs of the business. Provides specialist technical expertise across Engineering capabilities and maintains a holistic view of the FCA technical estate
  • Leads and governs the FCA strategically aligned Engineering approach, ensuring a holistic view across Data Technology and Innovation (DTI) and our offshore partners
  • Responsible for setting the DTI standards and defines the strategic “north star” metrics and roadmap, that each Product team (and their respective engineering leads) then adopt and implement
  • The individual is responsible for ensuring the technology and tooling choices of the organisation support the current and future business needs
  • Lead on defining standards for AI and how to accelerate coding standards. This will include ownership for cross DTI Engineering standards, working with individual product teams to ensure standards are in place

  • Working with our external partners and offshore delivery teams, to introduce new modern ways of working and value to the FCA
  • The successful candidate will be a key link to the business, working with senior stakeholders and the wider teams to ensure a user centred, data led approach to understanding the challenges facing the business and the outcomes that we need to deliver

The Skills And Experience You Will HaveMinimum criteria We are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role. 
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and transforming engineering teams in a digital transformation context
  • Experience of agile, scrum and kanban with application at an enterprise level
  • Experience with DevSecOps practices
Essential Criteria
  • A skilled individual who thrives on taking ownership of business change initiatives
  • Experience of leading large onshore and offshore technical development teams, across multiple partners
  • Practical experience of developing cloud native solutions
  • Experience of delivery automation and CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience of driving adoption of industry best practice horizontally across a matrix structure
  • An understanding of the financial services industry, including its regulations, processes and the broader financial ecosystem
  • Demonstrable leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and inspire cross-functional teams
