Financial Conduct Authority is Hiring a Law & International, Enforcement Legal Manager Near Edinburgh, IN
London - Ranging from £80,000 - 115,000 National - Ranging from £70,000 - £105,000 Are you interested in managing a team at the forefront of international investigations, and advising on a range of difficult, complex and often high-profile legal issues? The team/departmentLaw & International is a team of around 16 lawyers and business support, which sits within Enforcement Legal in the FCA’s Legal Division. The team advises Enforcement on its approach to international investigations, whilst also assisting overseas authorities investigating misconduct with a UK element. We represent the FCA at IOSCO, where we use our international standing to drive enhanced international collaboration. We also hold extensive relationships with international partners and host the FCA’s annual International Enforcement Symposium. What You Will Be Doing
Lead the team as it delivers on its strategy to strengthen the FCA’s ability to tackle cross-border misconduct
Take responsibility for the consistent and high-quality nature of legal advice provided by the team, and to sign off on the most high-risk legal decisions
Ensure the team is properly organised and has the appropriate resource and processes to deliver its core responsibilities - including responding to the high volume of requests for assistance that the team receives from overseas regulators - and to ensure effective progression of projects
Manage the performance and career development of the team, both directly and through others
Be a role model for the team and manage the team in an open and inclusive way, with a strong focus on training and knowledge sharing
Support the Head of Department and be part of the departmental leadership team to further the strategic management of the Department and the Division
Build strong networks throughout the FCA to ensure that the FCA takes a consistent and considered approach to international issues
Maintain and strengthen relations with key international counterparts to ensure we maintain FCA/UK influence and continue to influence decision-making in a way that is favourable to FCA/UK interests
Act as representative of EMO at international level, where appropriate, to ensure that the FCA’s interests are effectively represented
Regularly engage with senior management to report on the work of the team and inform decision-making on key international issues
What You Will Get From The Role
With the growth of global misconduct, you'll be leading a team doing critical work tackling cross-border harm in a rapidly changing landscape
You’ll need to be comfortable working with novel and tricky legal issues, using your judgement to find ways for the FCA to take bold action to tackle harm where that’s needed
And you’ll need the ability to establish and build extensive relationships in sensitive and political situations
You’ll be given the support you need as you take on this role, and you’ll be leading a team with a clear strategy and deliverables

The Skills And Experience You Will Have MinimumWe are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. This means that we will offer an interview to disabled candidates entering under the scheme, should they meet the minimum criteria for a role.
Solicitor or barrister qualified in England and Wales or equivalent foreign qualification with experience of advising on either: financial services law; international investigations; or contentious regulatory matters
Proven experience of leading teams and managing people
Essential
Experience of leading the work of a team, including delegating effectively, resolving issues and motivating team members to achieve high standards through empowerment and trust
Ability to perform under pressure, managing competing priorities whilst delivering multiple outcomes to challenging deadlines
Strong communication skills and the ability to present well-reasoned arguments in a clear and concise manner
Ability to exercise own judgements and defend those judgements where necessary and appropriate
Excellent relationship management skills and the ability to command respect and credibility internally and externally, including with other regulators or governmental bodies
Knowledge of the relevant legal framework, including the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, and a proven track record of providing high-quality legal advice on complex issues
