BioAge Labs is Hiring a Senior Research Associate / Research Associate II (In Vivo Biology) Near Richmond, CA

BioAge is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that is harnessing the biology of human aging to develop novel targets and therapies for metabolic diseases.
We are seeking a skilled Senior Research Associate/ Research Associate II (depending on experience) to join our in vivo preclinical team and play a vital role in driving our drug discovery efforts.
The Role: In this position, you will apply your technical expertise in rodent models to independently conduct key measurements for in vivo studies, generate critical data to evaluate our lead therapeutic candidates and advance our programs, and ensure the ethical treatment of research animals. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Richmond, CA.
You: You have robust animal handling abilities and experimental skills honed through deep experience working with laboratory mice. Your motivation and organizational skills allow you to manage multiple studies simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. You are a team player excited to expand your scientific skills while contributing to groundbreaking therapies targeting aging-related diseases.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Prepping mice for studies, such as shaving, animal identification (e.g., ear tag, ear notching, tail mark), and other tasks as directed.
  • Independently perform dosing, blood collection, measurement, and clinical observation of laboratory mice for in vivo studies.
  • Proficient at all necessary in-vivo technical skills, such as dosing of test substances (IP/IV/PO/SC/IM/IT/IN, etc), bleeding (submandibular/ submental/retro-orbital/tail vein/cardiac), performing euthanasia and necropsy of laboratory mice, harvest of various mouse tissues/organs.
  • Work with Scientists to evaluate drug efficacy and mechanism by analyzing biomarkers in plasma and tissue samples using bioanalytical techniques (qPCR, ELISA, western blot, etc).
  • Collect relevant data and provide feed-back to team members regarding progress of assigned projects. Maintain detailed records of measurements, observations, and other required data of various models.
  • Run a study from start to finish including completion of data analysis and the presentation to the team meeting
  • Adhere to animal welfare rules and regulations as instructed by management. Monitor health of laboratory mice as specified by supervisors and staff veterinarians. Assessment of animal health and specific hallmarks of disease development including ensuring adherence to humane endpoints.
  • Work together in a team environment towards the goals of our therapeutics programs. Participate in weekend and holiday rotations with peers. Take part in vivarium maintenance, including restocking supplies, cleaning, and husbandry duties. Help prepare and maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring inventory management.
  • Proficient in the use of PRISM or similar graphing software.
  • Train in advanced procedures and techniques as necessary.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent hands-on in-vivo technical skills are necessary.
  • Experience with bioanalytical techniques (qPCR, ELISA, western blotting).
  • Experience with tissue dissection (brain and other organs) and survival mouse surgery (any kind) are highly recommended.
  • Experience with IHC and imaging analysis is not necessary but will be a plus.
  • Strong motivation and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Organized and disciplined in record-keeping.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Prior experience in reviewing and analyzing data from studies, including study design and management.
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and equipment.
  • Some understanding of obesity, diabetes, aging and/or age-related diseases in animal models is beneficial.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related discipline with at least 4 years (RA II) or 6 years (SRA) of hands-on experience with laboratory rodents.
  • AALAS certification is highly desired (ALAT, LAT, LATG).
