Nursery Care Worker
Reports to: Office Administrator/Bookkeeper
Status: 5 hours per week; $15 per hour
Fair Labor Standards Act: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The Nursery Care Attendant provides dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to children, ages 0-4 years, during Sunday morning worship and occasionally for other activities.
Essential Functions:
● Ensure a safe environment for the children in the nursery.
● Provide age-appropriate care which includes (but is not limited to) feeding; changing diapers; escorting children to the bathroom; distributing snacks and helping children clean up afterwards; interacting with children through games, stories, play, and prayer.
● Foster a warm and welcoming presence by engaging with the parents/guardians and building a relationship with them.
● Seek to provide opportunities for faith formation of the children through prayer, crafts, Bible stories and an environment of safety and trust.
● In the event of an emergency with a child, notify the parent via cell phone.
● Arrive 15 minutes before the start of Sunday School, currently at 9:00 a.m.. Childcare hours include every Sunday 8:45–11:15 a.m., holidays included. The opportunity for extra work (e.g., for Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Christmas Eve, Vacation Bible School, Congregational meetings) will be announced at least 4 weeks prior to the event.
● Work cooperatively with congregational nursery volunteer(s)
● Clean, sanitize and straighten up each week before leaving.
● Follow the First Lutheran Church Nursery Policies and Procedures Manual
● Communicate, in advance, with the Office Administrator/Bookkeeper:
o Planned absences with an advance two-week notice
o Extenuating circumstances requiring an unplanned absence as soon as possible

Minimum Qualifications:
● Some previous work with children (does not need to formal employment) but demonstrates the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities and young ages.
● At least 18 years of age
● Satisfactory completion of CPR training for infants and children
● Three references
Termination Policy
● There will be a 90-day probationary period where either party may terminate employment without cause. After this period, a two-week notice is expected from either party.
● Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences will result in termination of employment.
● Immediate termination without notification will occur in cases of
o Intentional verbal, physical, or emotional abuse or neglect of any child, parent, or church member.
o Flagrant violations of the Personnel Policy or the Nursery Policies and Procedures Manual
o If the employee is under criminal investigation for child abuse, neglect, endangerment or related charges.
Effective: September 1, 2022
This position is co-terminus with the Senior Pastor
