Description:Grant and service a wide range of commercial loans. Develop solutions to a variety of loan problems. Represent the bank in the community developing and supporting bank growth, favorable relationships and lending opportunities. Perform all duties in conformity with applicable regulations and bank policies. Work under limited to minimal supervision with moderate to considerable latitude for independent judgment.
Essential Functions:
  • Interview loan applicants to determine need, financial capacity, collateral and structural considerations and credit history.
  • Obtain and analyze all necessary financial data, conduct credit checks and collateral inspections, direct preparation of loan documents and agreements, and grant credit within size and scope of the bank’s loan policy.
  • Coordinate with the Market President and as necessary with senior members of the Executive Loan Committee on loan requests exceeding personal lending authority; present recommendations to the Board of Directors, if appropriate.
  • Monitor existing loan portfolio for conformity to terms, current documentation and to detect slow pay or problem loan situations; take action to contact the customer to obtain payment or other technical exception resolution.
  • Call on existing and potential customers to strengthen, retain and increase existing relationships and develop new business.
  • Prepare reports, recommend foreclosure or other legal action or charge-offs as may be required or appropriate.
  • Approve and collect checking account overdrafts.
  • Provide customers with services such as reviewing checks for cashing or handling customer problems.
  • Recommend policy and procedure changes as appropriate to conform to regulations and to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • May oversee the work of a loan secretary/assistant or consumer loan officer, providing feedback on job performance and making recommendations with regard to salary, recognition, as well as, disciplinary issues.
  • May guide less experienced loan officers in the development and analysis of financial background data for new or renewed loans.
  • Maintain good knowledge of all bank services to identify additional customer needs and/or respond to inquiries, making proper referrals when appropriate.
  • Stay abreast of the market area you are assigned to through self-study and outside opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Bank Secrecy Act Duties:
  • In the performance of respective tasks and duties, this position must maintain knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act regulations and all other regulatory, security, and Bank policies and procedures.

  • In compliance with all applicable regulations and Bank policies, this position is expected to successfully produce quality work within deadlines, with or without supervision; interact professionally with other employees, customers, and vendors, while always respecting the need for confidentiality of customer information. The employee will work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments and work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations. Furthermore, the employee is encouraged to actively represent the Bank to customers and the general public in ways that promote the integrity, validity, and mission of the Bank by participating in community organizations, events, and activities. The employee is also expected to maintain a commitment to continuing education in the banking field through self-study and both in-house and outside training opportunities in all applicable banking policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Regular and punctual attendance is expected, and appropriate attire is required at all times, while either performing job functions or representing the Bank at outside events and activities.
Requirements:Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or economics; or equivalent years of experience as a Commercial Loan Officer.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of experience successfully growing a loan and deposit portfolio as a Commercial Loan Officer.
  • Completion of Graduate School of Banking program.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of bank regulations, policies and procedures, and federal and state compliance laws as they apply to bank lending.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency use of PC and mainframe loan database systems.
  • Ability to perform financial statement analysis as a part of the loan application evaluation and underwriting process.
