First Tech Federal Credit Union is Hiring a Director of Human Resources Benefits & Retirement (HYBRID) Near Hillsboro, OR

DescriptionReporting to the VP of Human Resources, the Director of Benefits & Retirement will be responsible for the strategic planning, analysis and administration of First Tech’s Benefits and Retirement programs which includes benefits and wellness, retirement, and payroll. The role will act as a strategic partner to ensure all benefits programs and retirement programs align with the strategic goals of the credit union. This individual will direct the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and administration of all benefits and retirement programs while working closely with executives and senior leaders across the organization to ensure First Tech’s benefits strategy attracts top talent, motivates and retains high performers, and aligns with the credit union’s overall strategic objectives.
This leader thrives on continuous improvement within highly dynamic environments and possesses exceptional attention to detail and customer service skills. Individuals will demonstrate strong executive presence and will interact across our senior leadership team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in benefit and retirement plan design and governance, with familiarity operating within a regulated environment.
Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:
Job Duties:
  • Direct the overall Benefits function to ensure programs are competitive, balanced and achieve desired behaviors and results that are closely aligned to First Tech’s business strategies.
  • Manage a team of benefits and payroll professionals, developing their technical knowledge and building a center of expertise for First Tech.
  • Provide reports, updates and make presentations, as appropriate, to communicate various Benefits initiatives to Talent, Senior Leadership, and directly to employees.
  • Ensure Benefit programs take into consideration benchmarking of peers and industry competitors, goal setting and metric development, performance and talent management, and overall benefit assessments.
  • Remain current on industry trends, best practices, and compliance that enable First Tech to achieve higher levels of organizational excellence.
  • Relentlessly drive operational excellence and innovation in all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain relationships with external vendors and brokers to support, design, and manage cost effective programs that are in alignment with organizational strategic objectives.
  • Conduct regular benchmarking & manage vendors to ensure that our internal customers are getting best in class service.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations including, but not limited to, ERISA, FMLA, and HIPAA.
  • Develop innovative communications to promote ongoing participant education and effective utilization of benefit programs to develop cost information for new plans and to make recommendations to management concerning sharing of costs.
Retirement
  • Prepare and participate in internal and external audits and testing (401k, Pension, Discrimination testing, IRS, DOL, etc.), ensuring overall plan governance and compliance.
  • Act as secretary for the retirement administration committee overseeing all credit union retirement plans including pension, deferred compensation, 401k programs, etc.
Payroll
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the payroll team to ensure business priorities, payroll deadlines and SLA’s are being met.
  • Analyze and make recommendations regarding system and process enhancements to streamline systems and processes.
  • Ensure that payroll team is meeting expectations and accuracy levels for processing multiple payrolls, record maintenance, garnishments and regulatory filings in compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
  • Manage/lead internal/external audits
Special Projects/ Project Management
  • Provides leadership and/or support for special HR-related projects as needed.
  • Develops and implements project management tools and processes to assist others to effectively manage projects. Provides training as needed/requested.
  • Identifies and proposes projects in support of company objectives, being mindful of resource constraints and ROI.
Essential Skills:
  • Success in creating and articulating ideas and plans to both executive management and peers in the context of business priorities and needs.
  • An action-oriented personality, comfortable working at both strategic and tactical levels, and one who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves to get things done, while remaining a collaborative team player.
  • Executive presence, one who possesses the depth of experience to comfortably interact with senior executives within the company while remaining accessible to everyone.
  • Leadership or direct experience within the payroll function.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations and their impact on the organization’s benefits policies and practices. Strong knowledge of California regulations required.
  • Experience with UKG preferred.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills (identify, analyze, research, evaluate, resolve).
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree and typically 8 or more years' related work experience in a leadership capacity with a strong emphasis on people leadership. An equivalent combination of additional education in lieu of experience is acceptable. Previous experience in a complex compliance driven organization preferred.
  • Certification/License: Benefits and/or retirement administration certification preferred.
Location: Hillsboro, OR 97124 (HYBRID)
Target Compensation: $135,000 to $160,000 annual bonus
