POSITION SUMMARY:

As the Manager of Sustainability, you will implement sustainable practices, promoting environmental responsibility, and ensuring compliance with sustainability standards. This position is responsible for performing day-to-day project management responsibilities, including executing on established plans as well as developing new programs. Additionally, you will oversee the development and execution of energy and sustainability programs at First Washington.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute sustainability management strategy, which includes implementing programs to reach energy savings goals and targets by defined timelines with focus on solar opportunities in the portfolio.
  • Integrate sustainability principles into real estate practices, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, and green building initiatives in collaboration across the company including accounting, operations, development, and construction.
  • Evaluate current Tenant Guideline sustainability requirements and if in compliance.
  • Lead the successful completion and submission of the GRESB survey.
  • Manage energy benchmarking standards, analyze energy consumption metrics to identify opportunities and create control plans to sustain energy savings.
  • Lead the implementation of governance processes across Sustainability/ESG around data collection and reporting.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and incentives at local, state, and federal level.
  • Determine financial impact to the company through detailed financial modeling and resources to implement any sustainability initiative.
  • Identify and prioritize energy and sustainability capital projects that result in reduced energy/water consumption. This may include HVAC upgrades, lighting retrofits, demand response and controls strategies, and evaluating cutting edge technologies and services.
  • Build and maintain mechanisms to communicate with business stakeholders on workstream progress, including internal education and email reports.
  • Identify how upcoming ESG laws and regulations will impact the business.
  • Provide clear and concise reporting of all energy and sustainability activities, metrics (cost savings, energy, water, and waste), and achievements on prescribed actions. It is important to understand how the data is collected for our centers and tenants.
  • Manage project timelines effectively by creating, maintaining, and communicating comprehensive project schedules to ensure timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
  • Communicate plans and progress to all levels of the organization through presentations and meetings.
  • Develop and maintain project dashboard and reporting mechanisms to provide real-time visibility into project progress, resource allocation, and potential risks.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in all areas of energy and sustainability to provide expertise, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, Engineering, Architecture, Business, or a related field.
  • 8-10 years of experience as a Project Manager, Manager, Sustainability, ESG or any related role.
  • 8-10 years of experience with energy, water conservation, energy, waste management, or energy engineering.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, building automation and control systems across commercial, retail stores.
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or LEED accreditation highly desired.
  • Experience with and understanding of ESG reporting landscape and key reporting frameworks preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications.
  • Be a self-starter, team player with the ability to bring alternative points of view to the conversation and analyze.
  • Able to promote change to drive the ESG agenda.
  • Passion for/background in ESG and sustainability.
  • Possess excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Strong ability to work cross-functionally and to communicate professionally and effectively, internally and externally, to all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a business context, including proficiency in distilling complex concepts and analytical findings into clear, concise, and compelling communications.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires the use of a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting of 15 to 20 lbs.
  • Extended working hours and travel may be necessary.
