Summary:
FirstBank's Specialty Lending Group (SLG) focuses on propelling affordable homeownership through our niche of specialized manufactured housing solutions. The SLG First Line Compliance Manager is responsible for managing a first line of defense compliance team for the SLG. This role will partner with multiple areas of FirstBank, including Corporate Compliance and Risk Management in addition to other first line of defense compliance teams in order to identify and mitigate regulatory compliance risk. Additionally, this role is also responsible for seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and promote a positive customer and team member experience. This person must maintain an extensive working knowledge of the banking regulatory environment and have the ability to coach, counsel, and communicate with the business line and direct reports in an effective manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
  • Manages the SLG First Line Compliance team, intended to partner with the business unit in order to mitigate regulatory compliance risk;
  • Partners with the business unit to enhance regulatory compliance within all processes, procedures and practices;
  • Serves as a regulatory compliance advisor for new projects, services, etc. proposed by SLG leadership;
  • Develops and implements a First Line Compliance Testing Calendar using a risk-based approach;
  • Partners with Corporate Compliance and SLG on remediation and risk mitigation efforts;
  • Seeks opportunities to create and enhance compliant operational efficiencies;
  • Advocates for business needs while balancing the requirements of complex laws and regulations;
  • Advises business units on emerging risks, control effectiveness, compliance risk exposure and mitigation efforts;
  • Partners with 1LOD Governance team to provide input on the Risk and Control Inventory;
  • Assists SLG leadership with consumer complaint response, as needed, and monitor for appropriate complaint resolution timelines;
  • Evaluate all current and new or emerging compliance regulations; review company processes; identify areas to assist with development of compliance training materials, as needed;
  • Assist in the creation, preparation, and distribution of reporting to various parties including but not limited to SLG management, business units, and Corporate Compliance;
  • Monitor testing reports for trending items and ensure any process/systemic root causes of issues are addressed with the business units and/or reported through appropriate channels.
  • Establishes reporting and tracking for emerging risks, control effectiveness, compliance risk exposure and mitigation efforts.

  • Experience managing a team is required, including the ability to effectively coach and develop employees.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally or in writing with all levels within the company. This includes communicating potential needs for improvements in a way that fosters teamwork and cooperation.
  • Proven experience successfully interacting with auditors, consumers, and internal staff.

  • Ability to demonstrate the highest level of ethical behavior and confidentiality and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
  • Understand and comply with bank policy, laws, regulations as applicable to your job duties. This includes but is not limited to; complete compliance training and adhere to internal procedures and controls; report any known violations of compliance policy, laws, or regulations and report any suspicious customer and/or account activity.
Education and/or Experience:
  • 7 years of banking regulatory compliance experience with emphasis on manufactured housing a plus
  • CRCM or similar certification, or additional years of compliance experience, required
  • Working knowledge of Federal and State regulations, particularly consumer lending regulations including but not limited to Reg. Z, Reg. X, ECOA, HMDA, and UDAAP is highly preferred.
