About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp [SC00].

This is an on-site position in Mayfield Village, Ohio.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Technician position will be located in Mayfield Village, Ohio, at the BETA Laboratory, and will report to the Supervisor of Chemistry - Fuel and Oil. Duties to include login using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), performing oil analysis for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB), Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA), fluid quality determination and determination of furanic compounds.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance a safe working environment, while achieving targeted production with high quality results.
  • Complete training and achieve qualification and proficiency in laboratory testing.
  • Interact with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and other instrument specific software applications, for the tracking, testing and reporting of various test results.
  • Be responsive to internal and external customer needs to ensure high quality results.
  • Complete laboratory testing in accordance with laboratory quality procedures.
  • Foster and understand a Safety-First culture at BETA by enhancing safety communications, focusing on near miss reporting, housekeeping, and controlling exposure to hazards.
  • Recognize conditions that affect accuracy and quality of work and be able to make the appropriate adjustments to ensure correct results.
  • Responsible to perform sample preparation utilizing wet chemistry techniques, basic instrument troubleshooting, procedure adherence, and quality assurance/control etc.
  • Assist in work of higher classification as assigned and perform other similar and less skilled tasks.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, innovation, initiative, dependability, good judgment, and work ethic.
  • Create an inclusive work environment where all team members feels like they belong and are enabled to do their best every day.
  • Train less experienced technicians, as assigned.
  • Wash and prepare syringes, fluid quality jars and login samples.
  • Analyze samples for Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB), Dissolved Gas (DGA), Insulating Oil Fluid Quality, Power Factor and Furans.
  • Must have the ability to or learn to operate analytical instruments such as; GC, HPLC, KF, ICP, Dielectric.

Summary of Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Chemistry or related science and 0-3 years applicable experience, Associates Degree in Chemistry or related Science and 2-5 years of experience, OR a high school diploma or equivalent and 7 years of related experience.
  • Work experience with an electric utility or similar industrial and lab setting preferred.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to quickly learn new tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Proven skill in both written and verbal communications.
  • Be able to make appropriate adjustments to ensure accuracy and correct results.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task with competing priorities.
