Job Details:

The Dean of Students is a strategic partner of the buildings’ Administrative Teams. Fast-paced environment, a leader within a forward-thinking team supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students.

The essential functions of the Dean of Students include supporting student conduct, working collaboratively with other administrators, and building community.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary license
• SEI Endorsement
• Knowledge of current education legislation/regulations
• Ability to work effectively with teachers, support staff, and parents and advocate for children to effectively problem-solve
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
• Belief in the commitment to increasing personal growth, both academic and social-emotional, to obtain the highest level of achievement for every student.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with staff and student information, records, etc.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as local, state, and federal regulations, policy and procedure manuals, and collective bargaining agreements and contracts.

• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The Dean of Students will:

• Lead management of students and staff on duty in the cafeteria for lunches.
• Support teachers with classroom management.
• Explore and develop programming for students around community building in collaboration with the Assistant Principal.
• Manage and support behavior offenses in collaboration with the Assistant Principal.
• Collaborate with guidance/ Social Worker.
• Collaborate with teachers.
• Provide disciplinary response (recorded in Aspen).
• Communicate with parents/caregivers.
• Support students.
• Provide supervision support at the start and end of the school day.
• Strong organizational, planning, and technological skills.
• Promote healthy social and emotional development and personal accountability for all students.
• Build positive relationships with students.
• Address student behaviors from the root cause.
• Support and monitor student attendance.
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal.

As negotiated by the Fitchburg School Committee and the Fitchburg Education Association (FEA).
