Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science.

Minimum 5 years of experience directing laboratory services in a hospital setting.

Supervisor's License in Florida - 3 areas of Laboratory.

ASCP Certification preferred.

Oversees all technical aspects of the laboratory to include all Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities. Ensures appropriate and sound clinical methodologies are utilized for all laboratory testing. Oversees the appropriate selection of departmental personnel through interviews, verification of credentials, references, and other pertinent information. Responsible for Laboratory Operational Budget and Capital Budget requests. Effectively manages expenditures and recommends measures to enhance revenues and services and/or decrease expenses. Evaluates the services rendered by the departments managed, including the quality of patient care or the quality of service provided, the competency of personnel and the efficiency of operation. Investigates and takes appropriate action regarding complaints with patient care or other services.

• Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies through quality assurance, equipment maintenance, staff competency, and proficiency testing.
• Maintains up-to-date job description which define the requirements, responsibilities and functions of the positions and recommends appropriate placement in the hospital-wide staffing and organizational structure.
• Establishes and insures implementation of standards of safety and risk management for the department. Submits periodic reports to Administration, which summarize pertinent information about departmental planning, organizing and directing.
• Oversees the appropriate selection of departmental personnel through interviews, verification of credentials, references, and other pertinent information.
• Investigates and takes appropriate action regarding complaints with patient care or other services.
• Participates in the hospital-wide Performance Improvement Program and guides activities as they relate to the departmental services provided to improve patient care.
• Maintains effective channels of communication with the President, Vice Presidents, Medical Staff leaders and other managers. Maintains effective working relationship with appropriate Medical Directors.
• Oversees all technical aspects of the laboratory to include all Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities. Ensures appropriate and sound clinical methodologies are utilized for all laboratory testing.
• Responsible for Laboratory Operational and Capital Budget requests. Effectively manages expenditures and recommends measures to enhance revenues and services and/or decrease expenses.
• Effectively manages human resources to comply with operational budget and limit Overtime. Insures all staff are trained and competencies are performed at six months of employment and annually thereafter. Responsible for counseling, discipline, and rewards as appropriate. Encourages interdepartmental and inter-departmental teamwork and cooperation.
