Position SummaryThe Vice President of Heavy Haul is a key member of the management team and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enable growth and building a scalable network that sustains the daily operations of the Heavy Haul Division. Primary focus is on Safe and Compliant Revenue Generation, Asset Utilization and Customer Service across our network as well as overseeing our dedicated and managed house accounts. Successful execution will be done through strategic communication and engagement with our corporate staff, while also maintaining a strong working relationship with our Operators, Agents, Terminals and Customers. Critical emphasis will be on strong staff morale and engagement, developing creative solutions for best-in-class customer service and delivering cost control or mitigation strategies that will provide positive financial contribution. Additionally, this position will lead our Permit Department and will actively work to advance our processes and technology development for managing OSOW loads.
Key Tasks
  • Foster a success-oriented environment that enables consistent achievement of the Division's monthly and annual revenue and income budgets. Provide strategic vision for planning and goal setting while continuously assessing market segments, conditions, threats and opportunities.
  • Partner with BME's SVP - Customer Solutions to market Bennett's heavy haul capabilities and successfully on-board new customer revenue. Directly lead Heavy Haul Customer Care business development and customer support efforts.
  • Act as primary specialist on behalf of the company with major customers, competitors, government officials and professional societies.
  • Provide active oversight for all company owned trucks and trailers, including but not limited to, Revenue and Utilization metrics, Depreciation, Maintenance and Repair, and Inventory.
  • Ensure division expense items (contractor over advance, excess compensation, company drivers) are adhered to, and manage these items to prevent adverse impact to monthly income statements.
  • Provide cross-training, mentorship, continuing education and other developmental opportunities for the heavy haul staff to grow and add value. Maintain high professional standards and lead with a servant's mindset.
  • Perform all other tasks or duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education/Experience/Other Skills & Attributes Required
  • 4-year college degree or 15 years of related experience in platform truckload operations with an emphasis on specialized, heavy haul transportation.
  • Strong acumen for the Owner Operator and Agent Business Model.
  • Ability to communicate up and down the organizational structure providing clear and insightful analysis on market conditions.
  • Prior experience providing financial analysis and proven track record of successful P&L performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of FMCSA regulations, state OSOW regulations, equipment types, capacities and capabilities, customer segments, pricing and 3rd party considerations.
  • Prior experience managing the OSOW permitting process, preferably with experience working with state officials in challenging scenarios.
Location and Schedule:
  • This is an onsite position based in McDonough, GA.
  • Standard schedule is 730-530. This position does require afterhours and weekend phone coverage.
