Job DescriptionCost EstimatorMUST HAVE BIW !!!!This position requires BIW (Body in White) experience and an ability to effectively manage relationships with external suppliers and customers to ensure comprehensive project deliverables.
The Estimator is tasked with compiling accurate and detailed cost estimates for specialized parts or products, serving as a critical foundation for pricing strategies. This role demands a robust engineering background, proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and layouts, alongside a deep understanding of the Detroit auto industry's supplier base for design and manufacturing.

The Estimator is tasked with compiling accurate and detailed cost estimates for specialized parts or products, serving as a critical foundation for pricing strategies. This role demands a robust engineering background, proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and layouts, alongside a deep understanding of the Detroit auto industry's supplier base for design and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive estimates for labor hours across various domains including Mechanical & Electrical Design, Fabrication, Piping, Assembly, Installation Supervision, Machining, Wiring, and both internal and external Try-outs.
- Calculate the construction costs of proposed equipment, encompassing raw materials and purchased components.
- Collaborate with the Project Services Group to transition estimates into budgets upon project confirmation.
- Engage in negotiations and estimate adjustments with clients as required by the Project Manager.
- Utilize specialized software tools to enhance standard costing spreadsheets and maintain pricing accuracy.
- Generate and manage proposals, including the creation of detailed written proposals and dynamic presentations in conjunction with Account Executives to facilitate business closures.
- Ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations, actively identifying potential concerns, and contributing to the organization's Quality System through continuous improvement initiatives.
- Extensive knowledge and direct experience in welding systems, automation, and robotic equipment.
- Strong familiarity with PC-based software, particularly Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated capability to work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure seamless project execution.
